Creating a Positive Digital Footprint
Personal/ Social Competency Reflection
- Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include… Taking a break from it every once in a while! It can be really easy to build up your anxiety and/or other mental health issues from being on-line too much, and that can lead you to start being more negative with the internet. So, I like to take a break from Social Media 1 week out of the month. I usually do it with one of my best friends and we always come back on-line feeling more positive and refreshed. Another strategy I use is, I mainly follow people who are positive or inspiring to me. That way I am only taking in good from the internet rather than wasting my time and scrolling for hours to find one thing I actually like. This allows me to truly soak up good healthy information like artists I like’s accounts, positive influencers, some health youtubers and etc. This allows me to stay as grounded as possible even when I am on social media.
- I think my experiences as a digital citizen, such as…. influenced my choice of course/hobbies/ teams because… It’s what opened my eyes to different hobbies I could try out! For example, the reason I picked up the electric guitar a few years back is because I started listening to a lot of Nirvana music and watching many documentaries and interviews on them. This opened my eyes to a bunch of other artists such as; Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton and so many others. It also led me to discover more about blues music and artists including B.B. King, SRV and John Mayer. After watching and listening to these artists and others, I decided I NEEDED to know how to do what they did. So, my experiences as a Digital Citizen definitely did impact my choice of hobbies. It still does.
- By doing…online, I make a positive difference to my peers. I watch a lot of TED Talks, Documentaries and listen to many Podcasts on how to better myself physically, mentally and emotionally. Little by little I am progressing into a better version of myself, and by doing so, I definitely do make a positive difference to my peers by being kind and unjudgmental towards them. How does that make a difference to them though? Well, like the famous “You are what you eat” phrase, “You are who you are friends with” also works. Your friends 100% impact who you are as a person. So, by being a good friend to them, I am helping them be good friends to others and so on.
