Titration Core Competency:

Titration Lab 20C:

CommunicationCC:

Effective communication was crucial in the titration lab, especially working with a partner. To stay on the same track my partner, Tanner and I had to constantly talk to one another to ensure we both knew our responsibilities and handled data correctly. In the titration experiment, accuracy were precision essential, and to be successful in those components my partener and I both had to agree on what steps to take and how precise and accurate each others data and observations were. It was important to clearly and accurately convey information such as the volume of solution was added, an the observed color changed, and the corresponding data readings. Any misunderstandings or lack of communication could’ve resulted in inaccurate results, which could have undermined the whole experiment. I feel throughout the three titrations we did our communication came more fluently and we were on the same page. This lead to our 2nd and 3rd titration going very well opposed to our 1st one as we communicated the mistakes made in titration 1. For example, in the first titration our end result was a very dark pink solution as we knew that we rushed the amount of NaOH we added. This lead us to use the full drops and half drops earlier in titration 2 and 3, and by communicating when to stop with each other our solution colour turned out much better. Overall, good communication among partners encourages collaboration, allowing for the exchange of ideas and observations. Communication served as the foundation for success in our titration lab and ensuring accurate results and a valuable learning experience.

Photo Project

Curricular Competency Reflection:

This assignment reflected on the land we reside on and many other indigenous communities within BC. I learned a lot about the territory I live on which I felt was really impactful. I feel I really benefited from the concepts of land, and community and how it has affected indigenous communities throughout the years. After visiting all these places and learning about the various groups that the land belongs to it made me realize how fortunate we are to be able to live and grow on the land we have. This project has truly expanded my knowledge of indigenous communities and I am proud of the work I’ve completed.

Core Competency Reflection:

Thinking: During this assignment, I had to share the photos and experiences I went through while being on the traditional lands of many different indigenous communities. I also had to reflect deeply on the stories behind the places I visited and how they are related to the indigenous peoples as well as how the colonization of the land has impacted them.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Comprehend and Connect:

I am proud of this artifact, not only because I achieved well on it, but rather because of how my writing represented my beliefs. By explaining my viewpoint and discovering indigenous storytelling, I have proven the curricular competency of being able to comprehend and connect. I’ve discovered that you can convey knowledge, cultures, heritage, values, and more through storytelling and was able to express my knowledge of these topics well throughout the assignment.

Core Competencis Reflection

Thinking:

Thinking, is the core competency that I feel I was able to truly develop and elaborate on during this assessment. This is due to the fact that, in contrast to other tasks, this one required me to utilize a lot of imagination and consider deeply how I felt about the principles, ideas, and themes that the indigenous people had taught me. I’m glad to have been able to forge a strong connection and think thoroughly about the principles we share because without this assignment, neither my objectives nor my understanding of indigenous cultures would have expanded.

Core Competency Goals

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I…

I tend to easily lose focus when I’m not in a good mood and as a result that can influence my progression within the school day. This year to fix this problem I will fix essential habits like sleep, life-to-school ratio, and especially not trying to overstress myself as well as build anxiety. Another key component to help achieve this goal would be to focus directly on me as sometimes that’s the best thing to do. Some little things I can do to help this goal would be to listen to music and be more independent when in a bad mood as it can help keep me calm and collected in a sense.

I show others that I truly value their contributions by…

I am more than often very open when working with others and am usually quite easy to work with. As a way to show people I really care and value their effort this year I will take bigger steps to ensure they feel valued for the work, they are putting in. I can do this by complimenting them when they achieve something, or even by simply working on something together and helping them accomplish what they need together. So as a result I strongly feel that collaboration with others is necessary to succeed and build strong communication skills.

How have you improved this year in…?

I feel that this year in particular I have to taken a huge step in becoming a more responsible, well-rounded individual as I’ve taken on bigger roles, tried new things, and have been quite successful in reaching things I thought I couldn’t. In contrast, I have found that I have improved significantly in aspects like my life outside of school including soccer, my social life as well as my time management. I believe that my improvements outside of school can make me a better all-around person and I will continue to take the necessary steps in able to succeed.

Physics 11 Core Competency Self Assessment

Thinking

Critical and Reflective Thinking

During physics class I can, find and create data by completing experiments and labs according  to specific topics. I showed this when completing the Position- Time Graphs for Constant Velocities lab. During the lab I was able to create a data table with my group members by walking at 3 different speeds and measuring time and distance at a certain point. I was able to input this into my data table to help further complete the assignment.

I was able to reflect on my own thinking by checking for errors throughout the lab. By doing so I was able to look back and correct errors that may have disrupted my data and graphs.

I was able to analyze evidence to make judgements. This was shown in my work when analyzing the data in my data table then having an idea of what my graph should look like by the judgements I made earlier. This further on corresponded to my slope calculations as based on the graph I could make a judgement whether my slopes would be positive or negative depending on the lines created on the graph.
