Music Monday: Edublog Reflection

  1. Reflect on how these songs contribute to making the community or natural world a better place and identify how the lyrics actions call others to action and can work to make positive change.

1a. In wreck Beach/Totem park celebrate the beauty of nature and the importance of preserving it. Ghost/Untold stories talk about the connection between humans and nature, highlighting the need to reconnect with our natural surroundings.

2. How do these songs represent that something is unfair? What is that “something”? Explain.

2a. These songs highlight the idea that something is unfair, that something is human actions leading to negative impacts towards the environment and the community. Both songs show the consequences on human behaviour .

3. What emotions do these songs generate for you? Compare your emotions between each song. Which one is more compelling? And why?

3a. These songs make me feel motivated to make a positive impact, so that I can make others to make a positive impact as well. They help me understand the importance of responsibility and making a difference.

4. What is important to each of the singers? What is the message they are trying to convey?

4a. Something that is important to each of the singers, is using music to express themselves. Each singer has their own message to show their love, or personal experiences.

5. Using one of your similarities and differences (not the example one given), discuss in a short paragraph (6-10 sentences) how music can convey different perspectives on the same cause?

5a. One of the similarities I chose was, promises are gonna break. Both quotes talk about how promises aren’t always gonna stay promises, somehow they will get broken. I feel like this saying is definitely talked about in each of the songs, but the only difference was one song was a white persons perspective, and the other song was an indigenous persons perspective.

Unit Self-Competency Assessment

Cell Membrane Diffusion Lab

Core Competencies:

Communication:

For this lab diffusion, we were put into a group of four, so two people would make a starch membrane and the other two people would make the glucose membrane. Since we were in partners, the lab was much easier because we were able to communicate honestly which made the lab process easier to do. I did glucose with my partner, and we were able to collaborate and work together. Instead of asking the teacher for help, we communicated our other group members, so all of us helped each other out to make sure that both of our diffusion labs were successful.

Thinking:

During this lab, I had to re-read and go back to the procedure to make sure I did it correctly. For making the hypothesis, I had to go back to my other notes so that it would help me make up a good observation and hypothesis. Going back and reading the procedure repeatedly instead of asking my teacher for help was much easier because each time I read it, I was able to understand it more. By doing this competency, this resulted in me to have a successful diffusion lab.

EEP 11 Final Reflection

My Artifact:

Pocahontas Text Evaluation

Core Competency Reflection

In this project I was able to learn how to answer questions in full paragraphs, detailed with no extra added details. I had to do a Pocahontas text evaluation and answer each question properly which is what I did. I was able to use creative and communicative skills to come up with these ideas. I was able to receive the mark I wanted and after that I started to add on more to it on other assignments.

Core Competency Self-Assesment

My Artifact:

Bedroom Project

Creative Thinking:

I chose this as my artifact because it was easy yet fun doing this project. The purpose of this project was to go online and find some furniture that I would put in my room. Then once I found some items that would look good in my room, I then had to calculate the dimensions and finally it was time to decorate my room and use those measurements while I was designing my room. I was able to use creative thinking skills because I was able to design my own room however I would like which I enjoyed. I was also able to do online shopping as well as look for some cool furniture that I could’ve put in my room.

English First Peoples 11 Reflection

My Artifact

Curricular Competencies Reflection- Create and Communicate

In this project I I read the story called A Mountain Legend and took an extensive look on the main character Jason. I was able to use the table out line to organize my words and elements around him to put together his character. To make these  elements I had to read the story to see which characteristics fits best for him. I was able to use quotes from the story to best describe what he was like which made the process easier to figure out which quality is more like him.

Core Competency- #ThinkingCC

During this process, I became better and knowing the character more. I think from this understanding, I am now able to use these elements to identify what the character is like and use these skills and understanding in any future assignments or tasks.

IDS Question Reflection

What is your Inquiry Question?

My IDS question is something that is important and useful to me and that is “how will I train my dog”

How is your time management? Are you using CENT time weekly to work on your Inquiry, or are you finding other time during the week?

I feel that I am not using cent time for my IDS question, I am using cent time more towards other work for school. When I don’t have other school work I  focus on my IDS question, this is because I usually use my cent time to work on my IDS at home.

What resources (people, websites, apps, videos, etc.) have been most helpful?

The resources I have been using mostly is google, I am searching up tricks and tips to teach my dogs so this process can become easier for him as well as me.

What challenges are you currently facing with your Inquiry? What challenges have you overcome?

The challenges I am facing in this is when my dog doesn’t do the tricks or it takes longer than a week for him to learn the trick. For the most part he is doing pretty good.

Describe your growth of a Core Competency through this inquiry process.

Communication because I am able to communicate with my dog so that he can have a better understanding of what he is suppose to do.

Will you continue working on this Inquiry, or parts of it, for your Capstone next year?

I haven’t decided if I am going to keep this question for my capstone, as for right now I am going to keep my question, but maybe in the future I’ll have a different IDS question.

Chemistry Acid-Base Titration Lab

During this lab, the purpose was to titrate the HCl solution with an unknown concentration of NaOH solution. The titration used in this lab was to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid using a known concentration of sodium hydroxide. A lab tritation is a lab method used to find out the volume of a solution that is required to react with a given amount of another substance. The endpoint of this titration is when the colour of the solution turns a very light pink for about 30 seconds, if it was less than 30 seconds or if the colour was a brighter pink then that would mean that the lab was not complete. I knew when we reached the titration when my solution was a light pink and was able to stay there without the colour fading away.  When I calculated my concentration, I used the average volume and converted it to litres. Then I multiplied it by the molarity to get my answer. After that I calculated   my moles and divided it by the litres to determine the concentration of HCl.

Initial Volume: 0.14 ± 0.01mL

Final Volume: 14.96 ± 0.01mL

Collaborating and Communication Skills

Through this, collaboration and communication skills were a big success in this lab. My partner and I each did a part to make sure this lab was successful and to tell one another if we were doing anything wrong or what we can improve on for the next trial. Even though we tried many times, we were able to get it in the end which was very exciting. The more and more we collaborated and communicated the more closer we were to have a successful titration lab.

Frittata With Feta and Sunny Side Up Eggs

Making and Sharing Reflection

I made this recipe with my own knowledge and skills. I used all my ingredients that I was told to have and made this delicious meal. I shared the finished product with my other group members. In this recipe I sauteed and then added some veggies in a cast iron pan, cracked an egg in there and put it in the oven. When my group and I all tasted it, they said it was amazing and it was!

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in by using my communication skills to make this meal. I made this meal with 1 other person, and we used our communication skills, so we don’t mess up and we both know what we are doing and whose doing what part, so it doesn’t get confusing. One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to make sure that we are on task always, that we know what we are doing, and how to use our collaboration skills to work together to make a successful meal. If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to find a solution where everyone can agree on something, that way everyone is happy, and we don’t have to worry about the meal getting messed up. My goal for moving forward is to make more different recipes that I have never tried and start creating some one my own recipes.
