Core Competency Post Economics 12

Collaborating, I worked with others to achieve a goal.
Ricky and I collaborated and brainstormed to come up with strong ideas that we agreed on. We thought hard and pitched ideas then worked together to improve, combine, and finally come up with our research topic. Eventually with our 4 companies, that fit each business model, we divided and conquered each one until we were done.

Creative Thinking, I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others
I showed this during the ‘Market Structures Company Profiles’ project when my group was brainstorming topics. I used creative thinking to build off of my peers’ ideas to create a stronger idea, and they helped by building off my ideas until we came to an idea we were all proud of.

Law Deserted Island Project

In this project I had to imagine that the entire law class was stranded on a deserted island and that I had to create laws for our new society to thrive. This included laws of survival, laws of social/survival standards, laws involving leadership and jailing.

Core Competency Reflection

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.
I demonstrated this when I organized my laws into different sections and clearly stated which law was which.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.
I demonstrated this when I used the example project to build new laws off of the example laws.

I can use strategies to help me find peace and I sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
I demonstrated this when I took breaks every 30 mins for 5 mins to not look at a screen as that damages my eyes.

Brain Disorder Story Assignment Reflection

What core competencies did you demonstrate with the Brain Disorder Story Assignment?  Explain.

I used Critical Thinking when working on the Brain Disorder Story Assignment, I took all of the information on OCD I could find online and in the Psychology textbook I then filtered all of the information until I got what I needed to clearly and concisely display everything about this brain disorder.

I demonstrated this when I used the topic that my group came up with and wrote clear and concise plan of how we would accomplish our goal.

Core Competency Goals

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include setting and maintaining a better sleep schedule.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by listening and collaborating with everyones ideas. I demonstrated this in my Psychology 12 class when members of my group suggested ideas and I helped build off of them with other ideas to create the best solution to our problems. But I can always work on improving this skill.

My next goal is a Personal Awareness one, I will try to eat healthier

Marketing 11: Creating a Promotional Video for Course

The project went well, I am proud of my promotional videos. I found it difficult to start, but once I got a grove I kept going and finished the initial video quickly. I enjoyed creating the Life Sciences 11 video more. Because I find the course more enjoyable, and I had a vision for the video early on. Even though I took Chemistry 11 and Chemistry 12 and won’t be taking Life Sciences 12. I learned that there are many steps and people who look at the video during the early stages of making a promotional video/ad.

Communication and Collaboration: I can communicate effectively with teachers and peers. I demonstrated this when I asked for feedback from teachers, clients, and my classmates. Then I effectively acted on this advice to improve my videos and go from good to great to best.

Lab 20B Reflection

Part 1.

I was able to rank the strength of unknown acids and indicators pretty easily. Firstly, I had to determine what the unknown indicators were. Using the chart I knew the indicators used in the lab were, Bromcresol Green, Bromthymol Blue, Indigo Carmine, Orange IV, and Thymolphthalein. Using the results from the lab I could easily determine three of the five indicators. For example, I could tell which indicator was indicator was Indigo Carmine because it was the only one of the mystery indicators that went from a blue acid to a yellow base. The two unknown indicators that were more difficult to find were Bb and Bg, because they both went from a yellow acid to a blue base. However, I could differentiate them as they had different ranges at which they change colour.
Now that I knew the identities of all the unknown indicators I could begin to find the strength of of the unknown acids. For each acid I found out which pH they had to be determined by what colour they turned in each indicator. For example, for acid 2 I saw it turned yellow in Bb therefore the pH strength had to be less than or equal to 6, in Orange IV it turned yellow so the pH had to be greater than or equal to 3. Acid 2 turned colourless in Thy, so it had to be less than or equal to 9, it turned blue in Bg, therefore it had to be greater than or equal to 6. It turned blue in Indigo Carmine so the pH had to be less than or equal to 11. Using all of this data I could determine that the pH of acid 2 was exactly 6. Since there had to be only whole numbered pH’s and it had to be less than or equal to 6 and greater than or equal to 6, the pH could only be 6. I used this method of finding pH levels for all of the unknown acids.
I used the pH ranges of the indicators from the data booklet to rank all of the acids and indicators by their pH’s and pH ranges.

Part 2.

 I can analyze and make judgments about a process.
This was shown when I was able to analyze the colours of acids and indicators to determine the pH levels of all the unknown acids and indicators.

I can communicate with others with intention and purpose.
I demonstrated this when I helped a few classmates by teaching them my method of determining pH levels of the unknown acids. I went over the method with them and watched them do an example to make sure they understood my method.

Lab 19C- Self-Assessment

Core Competency Thinking.

I demonstrated my knowledge of the thinking core competency during Lab-19C. For example, I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I was able to determine which solutions produced a precipitate when mixed together, by analyzing the appearance of the mixed solutions. I also showed my ability to use the thinking core competency when I had to judge whether or not the precipitates in the test tubes had disappeared when heating the tubes. I analyzed the evidence to determine at which temperature the precipitates would dissolve.
