To start off, there was one thing I tried the most while I was presenting my speech to my classmates, eye contacting to the audiences at the corner. The reason why I tried to eye contact the audience at the corner was because Mr. Penk told us that as a teacher, you can’t miss the eye contact with the students at the corner. Then, I was thinking about how I experienced that with my middle school teacher where my teacher didn’t eye contact with me, and it felt like my teacher was only talking to the students at the front. While I was presenting my speech with eye contact, I felt very confident and I liked how everybody was concentrating to my speech. Eye contacting to every student even at the corner would be the one thing I learned this unit and what I would definitely use it again.
If I have to pick one online strategies I used for my work cited page, I would absolutely pick the citation machine. While I was doing the research, I was doing the bibliography in the middle of the research and I found it very helpful how it automatically turns the website into a MLA form in few seconds. I didn’t need to use a lot of time finding for the author’s name, date when it was published, title, etc.
For my speech, I didn’t use any books because I found it way easier to find resources in the internet instead of books. In addition, it was because there are way more new advanced information about the electric cars in the internet than the books. Also, I used the online newspaper, ‘New York Times’ for the information, too.
The skill I would improve on my research skill next time would be using more of the google search tips that Mr. Salembier taught us. For example, using “” for exact phrase, using – for excluded words, and more. Almost till the end, I didn’t use the tips for the google advanced search when I was doing the research. However at the end, I used the “” for advanced search and that didn’t show other ads and unneeded information and found the information I only needed at the front. I regret now after the speech, but next time, I will use the google search tips to shorten unneeded research time. – -Chris Kang
