Social Hierarchy

Fridays lesson is all about place in society and the relationship between social class groups.

You need to make your own Social Pyramid.  You will take an organization / group you are part of and rank the involved groupings.  My in-class examples are Centenial (Principal –> Office Staff –> Teachers –> students) and a hockey team (Coach –> Manager/assistant coaches –> Captains –> players).  You also need to explain the power relationship (The Coach makes the practice plan and asks each assistant to run a station in return they gain respect and obedience from the players.  The captains demonstrate the drill and get referee talking privileges).

The Pyrmaid will be graded… appears / effort 5 marks, Power Relationship breakdown information 5 marks, understanding a hierarchy 5 marks for 15 marks total

You can make the Social Heiarchy on any platform / medium you prefer (Paper, WordDoc, PPT, Poster board, Clay).

Puritan

Today we defined Puritans (English protestants looking for a simple religious choice.

We also defined the enlightenment.  You made a T – Chart discussing Hobbes (life is brutal and short and government controls us for our own good) and Locke (People are born free and have a right to life, liberty and property).

We watched a Crash course on the enlightenment as well (we went over the questions in class).

English Civil War

In grade 9 Social Studies you have access to a “hopefully” daily blog.  This is the address.  I will post the things we do in class here, as well as some further insight into your learning.  This is also a good spot to receive handouts (your mom wants a copy?  Your dog ate your homework?  You were sick today but want to keep up? Here is the place!).

Today we started the English Civil War.  I handed out a package  (questions and assignments are in one file.  But the Map i borrowed from an older handout of mine so it will be in a second file).

I attempted to discuss some big concept vocabulary in class through these videos.

Skookum!

Your big end project is to make a family history.  YOu need to make sure you include a primary document (Photo, diary, art work, family heirloom) to analyze as well as an interview (Secondary document) to show your research.

This is your project, how you present  it, what medium you use is your call.

BarkerVille Essay Due..

We have been watching Iron Road movie in class while working on the Barkerville essay.  Remember to use page 222 to help you research.

All essays should have an intro and conclusion paragraph.  The three body paragraphs should be about 1) Foundation of Barkerville 2) Daily life / who lived here and 3) decline and modern barkerville.  The essay was DUE TODAY.  Email me (davking@sd43.bc.ca) the final product when finished.

We will be starting a family / culture research project next week.  You will need to interview family or community members and find items to use as heirlooms or heritage items.
