Centennial Design IDS Home

Hello and Welcome to Centennial Design IDS website. This will be your home base as we move through the design process.

The purpose of the Centennial Design IDS is to provide a group of students the opportunity to explore design thinking, while finding solutions to a problem present in our school. This course will run from February to April with our meetings taking place outside of the timetable.

This course will culminate in a presentation to the staff at a staff meeting where each group will present their design idea.

What is Design Thinking?

The term “design thinking” is used to describe a process of thinking where you progress through a series of stages each with their different focus and intention. For this IDS we will be using the IDEO design model. According to IDEO:

“Design Thinking is a human-centred approach to innovation that draws form the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success”

This process is visually detailed below.

We will be following this five step process over the coming months. Each “phase” will be guided by your instructors and will include work occurring both in the session and afterwards on your own time. The goal of this process is to arrive at a proposal that is well researched, clearly articulated, and rigorously reviewed.
