“Just Lather” Paragraph and Writing Goal Assignment – Self Assessment

Curricular Response:

My writing goal was pruning, and I think I pruned well in this assignment it was one of my shorter paragraphs that got straight to the point and covers all the information needed. I talked about cultural relativism thoroughly without rambling on other moral theories that could’ve been connected.

Core Competency Self-Assessment:

What is one aspect of your writing that you still need to work on and how might you get help or improve in this particular area?

I still need to work on integrating quotes and adding details to my argument to back it up. as in adding more information before and after quotes, learning how to blend my information without being choppy and trying to flow my different ideas to make them all under the same umbrella. I will continue to write planning sheets before writing paragraphs so I can lay down all my information and quotes and know how to lay it out on paper. I will also reread all my work so everything flows nicely while I read and also learn to go back and delete sentences when they start with “conclusion is…” or “secondly” to hopefully prune and better my writing for assignments given to in future classes.

My Final Piece

I had crafted a noodle strap dress out of crayons, it took me 2 and a half weeks to construct and was a struggle to put together to make it look seem less. I used personal responsibility this piece because I had to plan and make time for myself to work on this project. I had to figure out how I was gonna construct my piece with what materials and I had to plan out the timeline for it all so I could do what I wanted and finish within time with it still looking as good as I hoped. I’m able to self regulate and keep myself on task as much as possible when I am working in class and can ask for help when needed.

Core Competency – Chem 11

Social Awareness/Responsibilities:

During class we are assigned, after lessons to work on questions related to what was taught. We usually work in pairs and write all our work and thinking on the board, it really helps to be able to talk to someone and work things out together, so you have someone to ask questions to when confused. I also used social awareness while working on labs with my partners, I had to talk and work things out between my partner and I to decide whos doing what job. we took turns writing down observations and data during the lab, and asked each other questions while doing the lab. I can find it easy to work in a group because i am a very talkative and social learner and working with other people makes learning an understanding more fun and more effective. I can be kind to others around me and support my partner and class mates when needed, I’m always helping to clear up information and how to do some work like unit conversions, we did back in the beginning of the semester. this connects to me using my social awareness and responsibility competency because I was properly socializing responsibly while working within the class with other people, i have always shown my best behaviour and always listen to others when they are talking.

Successful Cooking

My most successful lab was Mac n cheese because I think I prepared and completed the best out of all the labs. the Mac n cheese we made was a creamy cheese sauce and spices put in to perfection with macaroni noodles cooked al dente. I chose this lab as my most successful one because in my option it was the tastiest and one I wanted to make the most. I met the product standards indefinitely because everything I made was very well made and looked very nice. The sauce was nice bright yellow colour and it was very cheesy with a great little taste of onions ion the sauce as well that enhances the flavour by quite a lot. I am most proud about this experience of making Mac n cheese because now I can make this recipe but add so many more things into the dish as well as making a side dish to go with it to balance the meal out, since its not the healthiest thing you can eat. I did learn how to make a roux and a cheese sauce in this lab as well as how to clarify onions in a pot with butter.

School Favourite Lab

My favourite lab so far is the fettuccine Alfredo because it was one of the tastiest and I’m glad that I learned how to make a home-made sauce so now I can make it at home. The fettuccine noodles were very “al dente” and the sauce was perfectly creamy and tasted great. the sauce was made with fresh parmesan which made it test as good as it did, we also put nutmeg, salt, and pepper into the sauce which added great flavour. A challenge I had in this lab was cooking the noodles long enough and knowing when to take it off the heat and strain the noodles. The greatest success was probably the sauce because the flavours were on point as well as the texture was just as good. I’m most proud the preparation of this lab because without doing everything first the sauce and everything wouldn’t of came out the same.

Banana Muffin – Sanitation

The banana muffin lab went very well and it was one of the fairly easy ones. I didn’t have many challenges in the lab other than trying to put the same amount of batter in all the muffin tins because they need to be all the same size and shape. Another challenge was not trying to over mix it so when the muffins bake they have the crispy tops and soft middle. I did barely good at mixing and preparing all my ingredients before putting them together into one bowl.

For sanitation and cleanliness there are 6 steps to make sure you have everything done 1. hair tied back 2. sleeves rolled up or jacket/sweater off 3. recipe in hand 4. phone put away 5. apron on 6. wash hands last. These things are very important because you cannot start cooking when your not properly

Learning Journey Breakfast Unit

The omelet lab was probably one if my favourites because it was the most fun and I got to try out my knifes skills and sautéing skills as well. This recipe had many different types of ingredients from potatoes to eggs with very much flavour added to them. I didn’t have very much challenges in this lab just because it was a pretty straight forward recipe and I knew exactly what I had to do for my partner and i. My successes were that I fully cooked everything perfectly and flipped my half of the egg onto the top of my “stuffing” of my omelet.

My knife skills got a lot better while cutting veggies and fruit for my omelet and breakfast hash. I had no idea how to hold a knife properly or comfortably, but I do know now and I’m actually very good at it. We showed our different types of knife skills as in dicing, mincing and the way you cut spinach and leafy greens.

my reflection:

I knew my information was reliable because the website that I used was secure and it had similar information to other websites I compared it too. I chose powerpoint to display my timeline because it has perfect timeline templates, its easy to put and read information and also it is fun and eye catching to read. I was satisfied with my timeline because I thinks its all of what the criteria is asking and also I put quite a bit of time into it as well as defining each thing very well. In the future I would change how much a wrote for each date because I feel like I should’ve put a little more detail but I still think I met the full criteria when it comes to my information and attention to detail.
