Breakfast Home Lab

For my Breakfast Home Lab I made a sandwich. This sandwich had Cheddar cheese, cooked Broccoli, Tomato’s, Cilantro and Onions. It had a cheesy, warm butter smell and tasted flavourful. Once I took a bite, I felt the broccoli and onions first. It was perfectly seasoned and nicely textured but, I couldn’t taste the Cilantro. I chose this over the other 3 because it has more veggies, you can add whatever you want and it would still taste good. I had a hard time flipping the whole sandwich when I added all the veggies, but I overcame it by using another metal flipper to flip it. By doing that I got both sides evenly toasted and the cheese melted. Although I had one challenge, I had many successes. One of those successes is having the preparation ready, everything I needed was on my counter and I was ready to go. Something I was proud of was my final product. My final product was nicely done, you could taste all the different flavours in your mouth at once. The adult in my life thought the dish was delicious but recommended to add a different type of cheese. They said it was very filling and cheesy.

Most Successful Lab

My partner and I made brownies. These brownies were moist and had the perfect amount of sugar. It felt light and chewy. It smelt like melted butter and a strong smell of cocoa. This is my most successful lab because my partner and I knew exactly what to do. The communication and teamwork was perfect. We both worked really well together and met the product standards. Something that went really well was mixing the wet and dry ingredients together and pouring the mixture into the loaf pan. the final product was delicious, probably because we mixed the batter really well and had the right measurement/ingredients. Their weren’t any challenges we had making brownies, that’s why this was one of the most successful labs. I’m proud of how the brownies turned out in the end and how they tasted. They tasted somewhat identical to brownies you would get at the store but of course with less sugar.

My Most Challenging Lab

I made Meat Balls but with no meat, instead it’s a Chick Pea Meat Ball. This was my most challenging because I had to make Chick Pea Balls instead of actual Meat Balls. The chick peas mixed with the egg made it hard to work with and roll into a ball. I expected it to have a dull taste and dry texture but it was actually not bad at all. The seasoning gave it much more flavour. It also has a moist but also dry texture, it levels out to both. The Garlic Bread gave it a extra taste and flavour all together. It was also challenging to figure out when it was done cooking. It took quite awhile considering I had to finish when the other group finished. The final product look somewhat appealing and tasty. The tomato’s helped a lot with the flavour, so did the extra provolone cheese. I didn’t expect it to taste that good but it did, which is something I’m very proud of.

My Favourite Lab

My partner and I made Fettuccine Alfredo. This dish is one of my favourites because I love almost any type of pasta and it had a strong taste which I also love. the parmesan gave it the best taste, the texture was somewhat creamy and thick. Although is had a strong cheese taste it had a very light smell of cheese. Had a faint smell of garlic and butter. from my point of view it looked like any other Fettuccine Alfredo, and from a distance you would say it looks like white spaghetti. Something I could work on was making the sauce and having it more seasoned. I didn’t have a hard time making the sauce it, I just needed to know what to add but at the right time. After making the mac and cheese, I got the hand of it and I knew what had to go in at what time. The final product was my best achievement out of everything. I excepted it to be flavourless but I was wrong. I was surprised it tasted like it did and It looked like a dish you would order at a restaurant.

Omelettes – Knife Skills

When Max and I were making Omelettes we learnt how to properly handle a knife and how to use it. The Lab went really well although when cooking the veggies took quite long too caramelize. When holding the knife, wrap your fingers around the handle and use the thumb and index finger to pinch apart of the blade and handle. What went well for me was holding the knife and not taking it off the cutting board when cutting the vegetables. What didn’t go so well for me was cutting it in a faster pace.

My Most Memorable Food Experience

My most memorable food experience is when I when to a café called Le Foret in Burnaby with my two friends. I ordered a Mango Waffle dish. It had waffles as layer one then ice-cream, mango syrup, pistachios and fruit on top. The café was very pleasing, aesthetic and well organized. This experience stands out to me because it was my first time going to a café. Considering this café is new, it was very busy. Although, I did get my order pretty fast. Looking for a place to sit was difficult. This dish smelt delicious and had many flavours to it. It was very sweet but creamy. It had some crunch to it because it had pistachios, which I didn’t find that appealing but other than that it’s the best waffles I’ve ever had.
