For this lab, I cooked greek food for my family and I. I would give this a 9/10 for nutrition because there are a lot of vegetables and protein in this dinner. My product standards for this lab was for the chicken souvlaki to be moist, and for the potatoes to be cooked perfectly.I only marinated the chicken for about 6 hours, but it still tasted delicious. A challenge I faced was making the tzatziki because I put too much dill in it so I tried to even it out. A success I had in this lab was the potatoes because they turned out perfectly and they were so delicious and had the perfect amount of lemon in them. I would definitely make this agin for my friends and my family.
For this lab I did a chocolate lava cake. I would give this a 4/10 for nutrition because there is a lot of chocolate and butter for each portion of cake. A challenge I faced during this ,Abe was ,asking sure not to overcook the cake because I wanted it to be runny in the middle and soft on the edges. During this lab, I forgot to butter the ramekins before pouring the batter into them , which resulted in them sticking to the bowls, so I decided to leave eat them out of the ramekins. I did not meet the product standards because the middle was not as runny as I wanted it to be, it was much softer and for these reasons I gave this lab three stars. A success I had during this lab was that the cake still tasted delicious and it didn’t take long to make. I liked this recipe because it was very straightforward and a dish that I could make for friends and family very easily. Next time I would make sure not to overcook the cake, and I would definitely make this again for my friends and family,
For this lab, I made risotto using a recipe from my Nonna Emma. The product standards for this recipe was perfectly cooked rice, because it has to absorb a certain amount of liquid or else it could be too dry or have too much liquid. My goal for this lab was to cook to the product standards, which I achieved and the risotto turned out perfectly. A challenge I faced while doing this lab was to remember to stir the rice frequently and add the right amount of liquid each time. For the liquid I used vegetable oil I had, and a chicken bouillon cube. I used fresh basil from my garden to garnish the dish as well. I gave this lab five stars because I had never made risotto before and it turned out perfect the first time I made it. It was delicious and I would definitely make this again for my family.
For this lab, I decided to make key lime pie for my family and I. I used a recipe from the internet and the final product turned out delicious. The product standards for this lab was a creamy filling for the pie. My goal for this lab was to have a delicious creamy filling, as well as for the crust to be perfectly cooked. I baked the crust and let it cool overnight and then made the filling the next day. A challenge I faced during this lab was not using too much lime when I was zesting it because I didn’t want it to be too overpowering. I also made my own whipped cream for the pie and it turned out perfectly. The process of making this lab was more straightforward than I had thought it was going to be, so next time I would choose a more challenging recipe. I gave this recipe five stars because it was simple and delicious and I could make this very often because it doesn’t take too long to make. I gave half of the pie to my neighbours as well and they loved t. I would definitely make this again for my friends and family.
For my home lab I made homemade pizza and a salad. The salad had lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, pepper, and cabbage. I also prepared the condiments for the pizza which were onions, tomatoes, green pepper, and olives. On my pizza, I put olives, green pepper, onion, and tomato. For this lab, I didn’t use a recipe because my family and I bought the pizza sauce and the dough and then I prepared the condiments. Everyone got to make their own pizza so they could add what condiments they wanted. The skills I demonstrated in this lab was my knife skills and kneading the dough because it can be challenging not to rip the dough. My dad helped me cook the pizzas on the barbecue. This was my favourite lab I have done because it was different and I’ve never made a homemade pizza before. The process was very smooth and the final product looked and tasted delicious. I would definitely make this again.
For my home lab I made oatmeal chocolate chip muffins. My product standards for this lab was a golden brown top and moist on the inside of the muffin. The recipe I used was very straight forward and I was very organized during the process of making them. The final product was smaller than I thought because they didn’t rise in the oven as much as I had thought they were going to. I didn’t fill the muffin tins all the way with the batter, so they were smaller. They still tasted delicious and I had a lot of success during this lab. I would definitely make this again for my family.
For my home lab, I made fish tacos for my family. The product standards for this lab was perfectly cooked fish. The recipe I used was very simple and straightforward so it was easier to make than I thought. This recipe was out of my comfort zone but I enjoyed making this recipe because I have never made food like this before. A challenge I faced was to not over cook the fish because once it’s over cooked it doesn’t taste as good. I had never cooked fish before so during this lab I learned how to season and cook the fish. I gave this lab five stars because the process of making the recipe and the final product was very straight forward and tasty. I would definitely make this again for my family because the recipe turned out delicious.
For this lab we made a pineapple delight. My goal for this lab was for the crust on the bottom to be cooked to perfection as well as a light filling for the top. I gave this lab four stars because during the process I felt it was very rushed and slightly because it was out of my comfort zone as I have never made this dessert before. A success I had during this lab was that my crust turned out perfectly and my final product was very presentable. I finished on time and had plenty of time for clean-up. I would definitely make this again for my friends and family.
For this lab we made a potato hash. Our goal for this lab was for the potatoes to be cooked perfectly as well as staying on task and finishing on time. We were focused during the whole lab and we were not rushing to finish. Our product standards for this lab were golden brown potatoes, and lots of flavour. However, a challenge we faced was cooking the onions at the right heat on the cast iron pan and for the right amount of time, and this resulted in the onions being slightly over cooked. I gave this lab four stars because we had no recipe to go off of which made it slightly more chaotic. The final result was delicious and very flavourful. I would definitely make this again for my friends and family.
This lab was a home lab that was completed over spring break. We got to be creative with this lab because we could choose any two breakfast items we wanted as well as a smoothie. For my lab, I chose to do an avocado and bacon wrap with French-toast rolls, and a fruit smoothie. In the avocado and bacon wrap I used slices of avacado, a piece of bacon, and scrambled eggs. For the French-toast rolls, I flattened out a piece of bread and put Nutella and cut-up strawberries on one end and then rolled it up and soaked it in egg. I then put it on the pan to cook and once it was done I rolled it in cinnamon and sugar. In my smoothie I added mango, peaches, pineapple, banana and yogurt. My goal for this lab was for the French-toast rolls to not break and for them to turn out perfectly. A challenge during this lab was making the French-toast rolls because they took longer to make because they were so fragile and easy to mess up. We had success making them and they were delicious. I would definitely make this again at home for my family.
