Spanish Conversation Reflection

Writing this conversation was overall fun. My partner and I came up with an entertaining conversation topic (gossip) and found ways that we could convey it in a way that we understand. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of seeking out past tense words when we hadn’t been taught them ourselves, so I wish we’d had the foresight to… figure out a conversation that would make sense without use of the past tense. As well as this, I found that it was sometimes hard to find ways to express our ideas through Spanish with the limited vocabulary and understanding we had. But I think we communicated well as a team and enjoyed the project in the process. All in all, I feel like I’ve learned a lot during this course.

English 12 Writing: Self-reflection

I struggled to formulate this paragraph. Looking at it now I can clearly see the awkward ways I worded and over-worded my ideas, there are some double word use that I don’t like, if I had known what pruning was I would have used that technique to improve the paragraph but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I might have benefitted from changing the tense as well… Overall I can’t find much I’m happy with. In the future I’d like to continue to prune and practice using clean and concise ways of expressing ideas as well as better connect my points. It’s clear in my writing and my process that I struggle with that, but now that I’ve taken this class I think I’m on the right track towards improvement.

Social Dynamics and Tabletop Games: Reflection

Core Competency: Creative Thinking

In this class I used creative thinking during gameplay and group projects. By exercising my improvisation skills I was able to find clever ways to solve problems and roleplay amongst my group, next time I play this game I’ll try harder to play a character with more consistent behaviour to further enhance the experience. (found it hard to stay in character) All in all I had lot’s of fun! 😀

critical/reflective and creative thinking skills

I reflected on my piece, “Growth” throughout the making of it, when faced with issues in my artwork i would frequently go to my teacher or friends/family for advice on how to fix the issue. I used resources like the internet to aid me in correctly painting the clouds, tree, and grass, when I sought to find ways to improve the piece, I would practice them on pieces of paper or my computer. When creating the idea for the piece I sort looked inside myself and searched for something that had been relevant to myself, I personally have trouble making anything that I don’t feel compelled to make, and I find it hard to come up with ideas when I have nothing to say. I stumbled upon the idea of self-growth-since I’d been struggling with that- and found ways to show that in a sort of profound way.

Stock Market: Self Assessment

Out of the two, my best performing stock was iShares CDN S&P, and worst was Vanguard Group, INC. both of which are ETF’s.

Since I don’t have any bonds, it would be smarter to buy bonds in order to balance out my portfolio incase the market crashes. I would say buying these ETFs was low risk because by buying ETF’s I’m buying shares from multiple different companies, which heightens my chances at a good return. Though if the companies bought were smaller companies I would call that high risk because smaller companies aren’t well established.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

I didn’t really have a strategy when picking stocks, I kind of just picked what I thought would have good return. Investing seems more useful than I initially thought it was, I had no idea that was the main way to get wealthy, in fact I thought it was sort of a bad thing, but I now realize it’s one of the best ways to stay afloat financially. Though still confusing to me, I feel like with some help I’ll be able to learn how to invest.

Life Saving Measures

In these classes i learned how to save lives via cpr, aed, and using naloxone. Through these lessons I’ve learned the importance of looking out for the people around me, even strangers, by being aware of their behaviour. I had no idea drug abuse and overdosing was such an issue before naloxone, the class was definitely enlightening and i feel better equipped to help myself and others in the future.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

I frequently do this as anyone does in their day-to-day life when it comes to social situations, school, and health.

Art Core Competency

Artifact: Final Art Piece

The creative thinking part of this artifact included brain storming and problem solving, but mostly random ideas. I used critical thinking throughout the making of this piece by looking at it and highlighting areas I thought needed work, I also referred to my thumbnails and original ideas and painted on scrap paper before applying to canvas. I mentally wrote down what I wanted to be big in the piece (high contrasting colours mostly) and stuck to that, making sure that what I wanted to be expressed was expressed, and example of this would be the flower, I made sure the flower looked like a flower and was bright enough to be a shock as compared to the orange.

Math Self Assessment

When I am sad, angry or frustrated, breathing exercises, and drawing comforting things help me be more productive or calm.

The ways I communicate at school differ from how I communicate at home in these ways: At school when I communicate I tend to be more nervous, cautious, and quiet when I speak, I also try to listen intently in class and convey my questions/work clearly(though still tend to be messy). Home is a bit different.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my math assignments where I clearly record my process in finding answers to questions.

To celebrate an accomplishment such as getting a good mark on a test, I tell my family and friends and metaphorically pat myself on the back. 🙂

LA Core Competency Self-Assessment

Artifact: Poetry Assignment

I demonstrated creative thinking in my assignment, I drew on experiences and personal feelings to weave my own poems. I tried my best to imitate the feelings from those experiences in creative ways by using metaphors and similes. When trying to find the right words and approaches to how to construct the poems I often created drafts of the poem and stitched together words from them until it all fit together right. In the future I’d like to learn how to better illustrate ideas and feelings in even more creative language and longer poems.
