Drawing and Painting Core Competency Self-Assessment on Edublog

critical/reflective and creative thinking skills

I reflected on my piece, “Growth” throughout the making of it, when faced with issues in my artwork i would frequently go to my teacher or friends/family for advice on how to fix the issue. I used resources like the internet to aid me in correctly painting the clouds, tree, and grass, when I sought to find ways to improve the piece, I would practice them on pieces of paper or my computer. When creating the idea for the piece I sort looked inside myself and searched for something that had been relevant to myself, I personally have trouble making anything that I don’t feel compelled to make, and I find it hard to come up with ideas when I have nothing to say. I stumbled upon the idea of self-growth-since I’d been struggling with that- and found ways to show that in a sort of profound way.

Life Saving Measures

In these classes i learned how to save lives via cpr, aed, and using naloxone. Through these lessons I’ve learned the importance of looking out for the people around me, even strangers, by being aware of their behaviour. I had no idea drug abuse and overdosing was such an issue before naloxone, the class was definitely enlightening and i feel better equipped to help myself and others in the future.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

I frequently do this as anyone does in their day-to-day life when it comes to social situations, school, and health.

Artifact: Final Art Piece

The creative thinking part of this artifact included brain storming and problem solving, but mostly random ideas. I used critical thinking throughout the making of this piece by looking at it and highlighting areas I thought needed work, I also referred to my thumbnails and original ideas and painted on scrap paper before applying to canvas. I mentally wrote down what I wanted to be big in the piece (high contrasting colours mostly) and stuck to that, making sure that what I wanted to be expressed was expressed, and example of this would be the flower, I made sure the flower looked like a flower and was bright enough to be a shock as compared to the orange.

Artifact: Poetry Assignment

I demonstrated creative thinking in my assignment, I drew on experiences and personal feelings to weave my own poems. I tried my best to imitate the feelings from those experiences in creative ways by using metaphors and similes. When trying to find the right words and approaches to how to construct the poems I often created drafts of the poem and stitched together words from them until it all fit together right. In the future I’d like to learn how to better illustrate ideas and feelings in even more creative language and longer poems.

Image preview

I demonstrated creative thinking in my portrait assignment.

To make this portrait and the elements in it, I first thought about what colors I associate with the person I’m drawing, I then looked at color blocking artwork and came up with my own shapes and lines based on the image I had for my portrait. I also condensed the image to basic shapes so that it would be easier for me to color block and draw.
