Law- Desert Island

About the Activity

For this activity we were tasked with creating a legal code for a group of 30 people who had been stranded on an island. The goal of this code was to create laws and punishments that helped to maintain order on the island. We had to include things such as roles for the citizens on the island, how new laws were created and enforced, and the procedure for laws being broken.

Core Competency Reflection

I can work with others to achieve a goal

I demonstrated this while working on this assignment by collaborating with my partner to brainstorm different aspects of our legal code. We talked about all of our different ideas and decided together which ideas we wanted to include in our project

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

This was demonstrated on this project when my partner and I divided everything we needed to get done, so each of us was able to do an equal amount of work. I made sure to complete all that I was supposed to do and also helped my partner with anything they needed.

I can give, receive and act on feedback to progress in my goals.

I demonstrated this by asking my partner for their opinion on some of the ideas that I had come up with. I made sure to listen to what they thought and made changes to improve what I had already done.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

I demonstrated this when I was trying to brainstorm new ideas for our islands legal code. I also did this while I was discussing ideas with my partner and listening to their ideas and I tried to add on to what they were saying.

Core Competency Goal

I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas.

I want to work on this core competency because while working on projects or trying to develop ideas it is common to hit a setback. I would like to be able to utilize these setbacks instead of feeling discouraged by them. I will achieve this goal by making sure that when I hit a setback, I try to use it to come up with new ideas and not get discouraged.
