My Model Town

Creating a model factory town

Name of the town: Winstonville

Company Name: Winston Farming

Resources available: Water, soil, and good weather

Elements of the town: Lots of open land for farming, fertile soil, and access to water

Population: 700

Explanation / Brief History: 50 years ago John Winston was traveling through the area, and found this big open space. John thought it would be a great place to live, so he began to build a house for him and his family. He thought the area would be a perfect place to start his own farming company. Within a few years the population grew, as more and more people came, the town began to expand. This was when he decided it was time to name the town and he decided to call it Winstonville.

Media Fluency Reflection

A. How was the ease of access in building the town, despite this being a very super basic software? I found this program pretty easy to use. I was able to add in all the buildings I needed to make my town and also the roads to connect everything together.

B. Were you able to apply the skills you learned in the planning stages appropriately to a digital environment? Yes, I was able to apply the things that I learned to help me complete this project.

C. What were the sources you researched that made this an “authentic make-believe” town? I used the information from the book Lyddie as well as things we learned during class to make my town as authentic as possible.

D. Is there other software online that could have done the job better? Explain. I think there are definitely other sites that could have been better to use for this project. I found that this site was easy to use, and it let you do everything else that you needed to do for the project.
