Creative Thinking

I can generate new ideas (or build on other people’s ideas) to create for a particular purpose or for my own interests.

I can build on others’ ideas and add new ideas of my own or combine other people’s ideas in new ways to create new things or solve straightforward problems.

I worked collaboratively with a peer to create an infographic explaining the changing role of women and the Persons Case relating to Canadian autonomy. We worked together to come up with a design based on a pre-made Canva template, moved the elements around, played with the font, and added captions to create a product that both my peer and I were happy with. Using a shareable and editable document worked quite well for this project as we were able to add both of our ideas to the infographic. Although a vast majority of the information in the infographic was based on notes provided to us, both my peer and I had built on each other’s ideas and edited each other’s sentences in real-time. However, we were limited to the information written by a word limit, and we had already cut a large portion of our information; next time, I would make the information more detailed, and go more into depth about the topic.

When assigned this project, I had immediately thought of Canva as my program of choice to use to design the poster. Using a pre-made template worked quite well, as an additional slide with elements pertaining to the overall theme was included, so we were able to make everything match with each other for an aesthetically pleasing product. However, it was hard to make full use of the space, as some of the elements did not fit in the ways I wanted them to. If I were to do this poster again, I would try to maximize the space, especially at the bottom where there is a noticeably bigger gap than at the top.
