About the Project

For this project, we had to do research into a minimum of two post-secondary options, with at least one of them being no post-secondary.  Additionally, we had to tie economic concepts such as Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA), analytical and normative economics, and opportunity costs into our choice.  Lastly, based on the economic factors that we considered, we had to choose an option that would best suit our future plans/goals/values.

Core Competency Reflection

I can inquire into and present on topics of interest and topics related to my studies.

Universities and after-high-school planning directly relate to me, since I’ll basically be deciding within the next year, which is why I chose this statement.

I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

When I was doing research for this project, I had to decide whether to go with straight facts, including my own opinions, including opinions pulled from the Internet, etc.  This shows me considering various ways of proceeding in a project.

I can tell what is important to me and I can explain my values.

A part of this project was directly stating your values and providing further information on them.  So, in that aspect, I align with this statement.

I can understand how my values shape my choices.

In some of my analysis/choices, I used my values as a criteria for making decisions, which relates to both this Core Competency statement and certain economic models.

Curricular Competency Reflection

Use Social Studies inquiry processes and skills to ask questions; gather, interpret, and analyze ideas; and communicate findings and decisions

I was able to use Social Studies inquiry processes by conducting research into various post-secondary options, utilizing online articles, and formatting a presentation that communicated my thinking.  Specifically, I started my project by asking myself what my goals and values were, then my future career plans.  Next, I conducted specific research based on those goals.  Lastly, I presented my thoughts in a presentation built using Canva.
