Digital footprint

My Journal Article:

  1. Are you active online?

Yes, I am active online, but it is just with friends and family. All my accounts are set to be private. I do limit personal photos.

  • What do you share online and is its appropriate reflection of you?

I share mostly jokes and animal videos on my social media.  If someone really knows me – I think they will definitely say it is who I am in “real” life.

  • Would it be okay with your parents seeing this version of you?

My social media is completely open and honest with my friend and family. My mom is one of the people I will mostly tag in posts….. this is a easy way to show her the things I think is funny or of interest. My parents is allowed on all my social media platforms.  My parents do not like to post personal photos, the reason is for safety, so my parent will keep an eye on my posts just to make sure I do not accidently give private info online.

  • What about your teacher?

My teachers are more than welcome to look at any of my social media platforms.  I am always honest and open in the things I do post.

  • What about your employs?

In the time we live in, social media has become the easiest way to get to know someone. Although I do not share private information online, is anyone more that welcome to have a look. If it gives an employer more ease of mind to know the person I am through social media – there will be no problems. I have nothing to hide ( except my “dad- jokes”….. but that is also who I am)

Core Competencies

Tracking myself via social media / my footprint

I have Goggled my name. It seems that there is a fair amount of people with the same name, my profile did not come up in this search. One of my photo’s did pop up but with a different name. This was the only online search results I could get. I think the main reason for this is that my mom do not allow personal photo’s to go onto the internet.

Internet especially social media is our main form of communication. Keeping in touch with people that do not even live in the same country as you. For me social media is staying in touch with my family in South Africa or even my cousin in Saskatchewan. Staying in contact with a click of a button. But it is also the most dangerous way to communicate. People can track you to your house if you are not careful. This is what I understand under the footprint I leave. Will anyone in the world be able to track my life and activities by the information I put out on social media.  All social media needs to be used responsibly.  I feel by sharing quotes and funny videos, I stay connected without exposing myself.  People get to know and connect to me in the things I like and are interested in, without giving away important information.

It is my footprint.

About Me Assignment

My Bio

I was born in South Africa, I moved to Canada with my family in 2019. It has been quite a journey.  We love to explore the icy blue lakes around BC. Ice blue is my favorite color. I love walking in the forest imagining I am an explorer in faraway times. When it’s raining, I like to watch movies. One of my favorite movies is the Transformers saga.  Since coming to Canada I had to try a lot of new foods, but I have to say pizza is still my favorite food.  If I could go somewhere, I would want to go to Hawaii. I miss my family in South Africa, I want them to come to Canada and let them live here too. One of the people I miss most is my grandmother. She comes and visit us ones a year but could not come this year due to Covid.  We are looking forward to her visit next year.  I have made new friends in Canada and I would like to make more friends in the future.
