Life Saving Measures

My three takeaways from the CPR and Naloxone presentations are how important it is to be prepared for a situation to occur, how giving someone naloxone or CPR can save their life and how important it is to act right away. Being prepared means having the abilities to administrate CPR or naloxone when necessary. I learnt from the presentation how to properly give someone naloxone. Acting right away is important because you can save someone’s life and if you don’t act right away there chances of living is severely decrease.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements when it comes to recognizing if someone is having an overdoes and needs help. When the people from NaloxHome came to present to our class I learnt about how to tell if someone is overdosing and how to administer naloxone to them properly.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when we had an in class essay after watching the film Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner. I was given a prompt to write about, so I built and created this essay off of it. I’m proud of how well I did on this essay.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is writing this essay. When we write our essay we have certain criteria’s we have to meet like word count, content, organization, expression and mechanics. In this essay my focus was to complete all of those criteria’s, so that I can do well on it. While writing and focusing on it I ended up writing my best essay and I was very proud about it.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I stop what I’m doing and take a breath. When I write essays I get really nervous and it causes me to not write well. So, this time when I was writing it and I noticed that I was getting frustrated and not happy with what I was writing I would put down my pencil and stop thinking about it for a couple minutes. When I regained my focus I would continue writing my essay and this helped me a lot.

One goal I have moving forward is completing my work to the best that I can and handing in my work on time. In this class, I didn’t hand a lot of my work on time and it would usually be late. To get better at handing in my work on time I will use my reminders app on my phone to remind me to hand in the work. For completing my work the my highest skill, I can push myself to do more and work harder even if I completed all the criteria.

For this assignment we had to create a workplace ethics presentation. I was working with a partner for this. Before we started working and gathering information for the presentation, we discussed how we would divide up the work equally. We did that, so we would reach the goal of completing the assignment to the best of both of our abilities. Some things I thought about before we divide up the work include, what are my strengths and weaknesses, what are my partner’s strengths and weaknesses, and I also what I’d like to do and what my partner would like to do. This made it much easier for us to complete our goal of creating the presentation.

Law – Desert Island

About the Activity

In this project our class was given a scenario where a plane crashed on a desert island with 30 students on it. Our first task was to create a legal code to keep order on the island. The code consisted of laws, how laws are made and passed, a legal system, how to enforce laws, jobs of the island and more. The last task of this was to reflect on your code, compare and contrast it with Canadas legal code and 2 other ones discussed in class and the strengths and weaknesses.

Core Competency Reflection

I can work with others to achieve a goal. I chose this one because when creating our legal code my partner and I had to dived the work up together so we can complete our goal of creating a legal code.

I can find it easy to be part of a group. I chose this one because I find that I work very well in a group because I’m very flexible. When working in a group I can be laid back and help support my partner when they need help or I can take the lead of what we are doing and tell them what to do.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I chose this one because I worked very hard on this project with my partner and I felt like we got a pretty good grade on the assignment.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I chose this one because after our class learnt about all the legal codes, I built my legal code based off all of the codes we were discussed.

My Goal

I can recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them. I am working on this goal because sometimes I find that I don’t know when my body need a break and I just over do it and I make myself very tired. To reach this goal I plan to ask myself “How do I feel right now?” and if I’m starting to feel tired I will take a break from what I am doing.

Graphing a Parabola

Original Parabola: y=x2

My Parabola: 𝑦=4(𝑥−1)2−6

The Vertex Form of a parabola is y=a(x-h)2+k. In Vertex Form the “a” is able to tell us which way the parabola is opening, if the “a” in the parabola is positive like mine it opens upwards. However if the “a” was negative it would open downwards. The “h” in Vertex Form represents how the parabola shifts left or right. This is confusing because the original formula is y=a(x-h)2+k, so when the number in the “h” spot is negative it moves to the right, but if it is positive then the parabola moves to the left. In My Parabola the “h” is -1 so it moves to the right. The “h” value is also the x value of the Vertex. “k” determines how the parabola moves up or down on the graph. In My Parabola “k” is -6 meaning my parabola is going to be shifted down on the graph. “k” also gives us the y value for the vertex. In Vertex form you are able to get the Vertex by taking the “h” and the “k” value, the Vertex of My Parabola is (1,-6)

Self-Assessment

In this assignment, I represented the same mathematical idea in 3 different ways. I was able to show it by graphing, by writing out the equation and by explaining it by using words. I was able to show it by graphing by using Desmos. I wrote the equation out above. I explained it by using words and I described the Vertex Form and explained everything about it.

In this assignment, I used mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate my understanding. I used words to explain my equation like Vertex Form, Vertex, x-intercept and y-intercept.

In the assignment, I made sure to format everything. I made the graph big enough that you can read it and view all of the important information, I used colours to show which equation is which on the graph and I included the x-intercepts, the y-intercept and the Vertex of my equation.

My Artifact: Button Dichotomous Key

I demonstrated critical thinking by working with my partner to create a dichotomous key in an organized manner. I demonstrated this by critically thinking on how to classify every button into their own group. I gained the skill of being able to analyze things and to be able to put them into a dichotomous key.
