My family traditions

I made a meal with foods I knew my family would enjoy. We like to bbq especially when the weather is nice. A new part of our tradition is including vegetarian cooking for my sister. I chose nachos because they are a social thing to share eating together. Visually the meal looked yummy, with cheesy taste to the nachos, and a  lovely chocolate scent while baking the lava cakes and there were nice lightly crispy fries. I loved the sounds of my family sharing the nachos – laughter and talking.

I planned and cooked/baked it all myself and helped with the cleanup. I’m proud of myself for making a whole meal with dessert to share with my family. My mom loved that she didn’t need to make dinner.

I have made lava cakes and burgers before. I have become good at making lava cakes because of done it several times. I made nachos without a recipe and my own guacamole. These things reflect that I like trying to do new things and I can become good at it by doing it more than once (practice).  These dishes show that I am Canadian and live in a community with outdoor space to bbq and a family to share the meal with at home.

Cooking At Home

I made a strawberry crisp, this was super simple for me a and really fun because ex we had made pastries in class previously so I already knew how to make the dough! The filling was really easy and irbid all ended up being really good.

Cooking at Home

This is my family’s traditional hot cross buns. From what I know this is my grandma’s recipe. She made these for my moms family all the time when she was younger and now my mom does for me. I always loved them when I was younger, and still do now, my mom always made them in the spring each year that I can remember. I thought this would be a good one to choose for this cooking at home assignment.

Cooking at Home #5

For my cooking at home today I made flour free cookies. They have a very small ingredient list of peanut butter, brown sugar, chocloate chips, an egg and baking powder their super easy and really good! First time I made them I expected they wouldn’t hold together, they are a bit softer than most cookies coming out of the oven and a little bit crumbly but not too bad. I would definetly make them again.

Buddha Bowl

Making the buddha bowl was really fun and I was super successful, it ended up tasting really good. I had a lot of help from my mom. The only challenges we ran in to which were really easy fix was findings substitutes for things we were going to put in. In the end wasn’t was really good.

At Home Cooking

Yesterday for my cooking assignment I made baked potatoes. I learned this recipe from my grade 6 food course and when I had an oppritunity to make something I choose this because I remebered how much everyone in my family liked it. I was really succesful with it and didnt come to any problems other than we only had small potatoes which made it dificult to scoop the potato out and put back in. This dish was mostly made up from memory since its fairly simple. I’m really proud of myself because it tasted really good and everyone enjoyed eating it.

Knife Skills

This lab went really well for me, I was able to cook my egg properly and cut all the veggies into even cubes and cook them just right. I normally don’t like eggs that much, but I decided to try it and surprisingly ended up really enjoying this recipe.
