How To Play: There are colors shown, and you have to drag the colors to a empty spot in the first row. On the side there are four circles in the shape of a box. It will state after you press check if any are in the right spot (there will be a red dot) or if any are the right color but wrong spot (there will be a white dot). If you have a row of four, there will be four circles in a line and to the side. You can choose to have more circles to guess. You will keep guessing until you reach the limit of ten rows, and it will then tell you what the color code was. The goal of this game is to guess the color code before it tells you what it is.

Strategies: Some strategies I used to win were guess some colors randomly and see if any are in the right spot. If any are, then I would try and base the next one close to that, and so on. If I didn’t get any right, then I would try a different pattern. That is what I used to play, it is a guessing game at first, then you can slowly begin to find a pattern and maybe guess correct.

Inductive or Deductive?: I think the game uses Inductive reasoning, this is because in the game you use logic to slowly figure it out. In the game, you have to think and figure out the pattern using the information given after you check the pattern. Then you can use that logic to figure out what color goes where and hopefully get the correct pattern. You have to evaluate every guess you try each time you go to another row.

The Writing Process

Over the time of creating this essay, I learned more about my family than I had before. It was difficult to put what I learnt into an essay; there wasn’t a lot of good information I gathered. I had to use the information I got which was not a lot and use any information I knew to try something. I was able to construct an essay talking about how my family got to Canada, and where they were originally from. I interviewed my mom to learn more about her side of the family and put the information I gathered throughout the ‘Where I’m from’ essay I made. I enjoyed getting to learn more about my family. Since visiting Italy over the summer, I was also able to see where my grandparents were from and see where they lived. Overall, this essay was a good learning experience to learn more of where I’m from at least on my moms side.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include starting off with making a list of questions for when interviewing my mom. And when all questions are answered, I would be able to start a draft with any information gathered.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by listening to what they said needed to be fixed, and tried my best to do so. I added and fixed anything they said should be done after they evaluated my draft copy before I handed in my final copy.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is shown throughout the essay I have written. I have met a lot of the criteria, even though some parts are not as well done, I was able to use the criteria to improve my work and get a good finished product.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I was writing the essay. I tried different ways of writing throughout my essay, I tried alternate approaches and went with the best that would fit with what I had.

A goal I would have going forward would be to try and go through any essays I write and make sure it’s well done. I appreciate feedback on any work such as an essay like this one. And prefer it comes in the form of a paper with written ideas of what could be added or improved. It’s useful to get feedback so you can understand what you may need to work on, and that is a goal I am hoping to improve on more. I’ll try to achieve this goal by getting feedback from family, friends or anyone that is able to help on future essays to hopefully improve what needs to be.

Math 11 Foundations Stats Unit Self-Assessment

In Foundations of Math 11 in the statistics unit the class learnt how to understand a normal distribution curve which is used for many things. The normal distribution curve or bell curve can be used to find percentages, numbers, etc. If you have a mean or an average number you can put that in the middle and have standard deviations that are a specific number off of the mean. In the bell curve there is the mean in the middle with three standard deviations on each side of it, the right side having the standard deviations add from the mean. Then the left standard deviations subtract from the mean, there are percentages in the sections between the standard deviations. The natural distribution curve can be used for businesses for finding what size shoe to buy more than another or anything else. A formula is used to find an answer you are missing, the formula is z=(x–μ)/σ. I feel I understand this topic, but still could go through and practice more. A challenge I had in this unit was with the confidence intervals and margin of error lessons. I felt it was challenging trying to remember the way to get the confidence interval, but after a little bit I got better at it. The way I overcame this was doing many questions involving it and getting a hang of it. One thing I want to work on for the next unit is trying to studying more during my free time and go through questions that I feel are harder. Lastly, In class I will get homework done and if I have free time I will try and go through extra questions to see if I have the hang of it.

IDS Inquiry Reflection

My inquiry question is “How do I get better at understanding the way a circuit or Arduino works by making an assignment involving them”. With this question so far I have gone through understanding more then I have already known. My focus has shifted a little bit because I was working on a 3D printer for a little bit, but now I am focusing on circuits. I mainly just use CENT time because I am busy outside of school and CENT time is when I focus on this. For resources, I try and find anything that can help on YouTube or google. Anything I find is helpful, but I do have some knowledge so I go off of what I know to try and figure things out by myself. I don’t have many challenges, just trying to make things work and to find something new can be a challenge though. I haven’t had many challenges I have had to overcome so far, I mainly just have to overcome trying to figure something out if I don’t know and it can be hard to find something sometimes. I have had to use creative thinking a lot for what I have done and have grown on that Core Competency throughout my inquiry. I have had to use thinking finding things, figuring things out, and more. I will share what I have and will be learning using my weekly planner and sharing with others I know. I may be on track to share what I have learnt, but not created. I might continue to work on this inquiry for my Capstone, but so far I am not sure. Overall, This inquiry has been a little slow and I should be able to finish something by May or June.

Metalwork Edu-blog Process Assignment 

So far in Metal 10/11 with Mr. Peterson I have started working on two dice as the first project. I have done a layout for the design, and used the drill press to cut the holes already and had to guide the drill with center punch holes. I had to use critical thinking using the center punch with my measurements trying to aim to get the holes lined up and my pieces to be good and the right size. I have finished my goal of trying to get the holes lined up as well as I could. The holes that were drilled turned out fine with some a little off and other being good. If I were to do something differently, I would have tried to be more precise with drilling and measuring if I knew more of what I was doing marking on metal. I haven’t taken a Metalwork class since grade 9 and I am in grade 11, so I don’t remember a lot from Metal 9. If I was not successful I would have had to redo what I needed to be redone and make sure I wouldn’t make the same mistake again. I am proud of how I did on marking out and drilling the holes on the metal. Overall, the dice project has been good so far and there is still more to do from the point I am at.

Collaborating

I was able to work with someone else to achieve a goal and finish the assignment with a good finished product. We were able to speak aloud and collaborate to present this to our teacher and class while having practiced many times before. My partner and I both thought of what would work well to write down to make a good script. We collaborated well by offering ideas to add on. We were able to finish and have a lot of time to practice. From practicing, we were able to get a hang of speaking and did fine presenting. We were also creative with our script and came up with things to add to make it different. Overall, we were able to collaborate and make a script up to expectations and present it.

Woodworking 11

In woodwork, Mr. Huber has taught the classes he teaches many things and an example would be with the the mortise and tenon which is used with the coffee table and as well the end table to joint pieces together. With doing the mortise you have to make sure the measurements are right and think about how the tenon has to fit in the mortise. The mortise has to be a specific size as given to us, which for the coffee table is 1/2″ wide by 2 3/4″ tall for the legs. Also, by sanding, jointing, or planing the piece it may make it smaller than the actual size needed. Maybe you could have cut your piece a little bit bigger, this will have you think and make sure the mortise is in the middle. So once the tenon is in it will be done the correct way. Also, with the tenon it’s the same because of having to measure and make the piece fit as perfect as you can get it will help. If I could, I would have spent more time making sure the tenon is very well made, but it still fits good. I have gotten better at making sure measurements are perfect as well so that is a good benefit to this. If the mortise and tenon failed I would have to find another piece or make another and try again if something went wrong. Overall, this project is a good one and I have learnt before to try and slow done on my projects and take my time.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

After many things from history, we have learned about winners and also about losers with an idea about both sides, the story of history is questionable by whom it was told by. Around the year of 1919 and the Russian Revolution some examples of how history was told can be shown. Such as by the poor, history showed that they did not do so well, and for the Russian revolution the poor had to work on farms without owning land. Even when ending a war there are stories by both the winning side and the losing side, with even the losing side winning battles or losing them there are still stories written by that. The winning side is what many see and does tell many stories about history either focusing on one thing or the other, there is still a lot to learn about the winners and the losers. Mainly what is seen are the big events, but even small ones can change things and add to the story of history. In the Russian Revolution people learn about the Tsar, royal family, Rasputin, and many more things. The Russian Revolution showed many ideas of stories that were written, with the Tsar and things like the white army. In summary, the winners are what are mainly looked at for how the story of history is told, but it is best to focus on small things even the losers as well.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements in history such as a little bit in the paragraph above for the activity. From evidence and notes I am able to judge the evidence I have found and write it out using whatever topic is being used. Such as for the Russian Revolution in the paragraph above I was able to do some of that. When analyzing evidence to make judgements I try and find good evidence to prove that something is true. Something I would like to get better at is knowing more history, but there are a lot more things I would like to get better at other than having more knowledge of the past. Along with that this activity helped me be able to write about a history unit and show some knowledge of some things I know. Overall, I was able to analyze evidence to make judgements in this activity about the Russian Revolution and history.

Core Competency Goals

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take a break and when ready I am able to get back and finish what I was doing. This I do in school or when working on school work at home if I need to focus, I also sometimes put my phone away to try and not get distracted. As a goal, I need to work mainly on getting distracted less because if I am in a loud area I get distracted easily. Trying to re-focus can be hard after being distracted, so that’s why it is easier to work on things in a quiet area. There are many ways to stay focused, but it is hard sometimes.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see everyone discussing the subject that we are working on and everyone is including each other. A group should normally be working together, but in some groups people don’t join in and help. Or if I’m in a group with a friend we may just talk about something other then what we should be talking about. I try to resolve this by talking about the work or trying to get us back on track. As a way to help, I always try to include everyone and make sure we are doing the work we should be doing.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try my best to introduce myself and learn their names to know them better. In many of my classes I will be in groups and I may not know most or everyone in the group. I will try and still talk and contribute with the people/person I would be working with. I definitely need to work on this though because I can be shy at times and it is important to meet new people you don’t know.
