Musical Performance Reflection

Small ensemble and solo concert

Curricular Competencies Reflection

During the process of learning a difficult song for the small ensemble and solo performance, I learned many different music techniques. The song me and Lucus played is called Concertino op.107 by Celia Charlemagne. Learning the song, I had to learn how to play thirty-second and sixty-fourth notes. It took great difficulty to accomplish.

Another thing that was complicated was in the allegro section in the song, it had a very repetitive pattern which included a mix of sixteenth notes and thirty-second notes. At first I would slowly work on the section, then speed it up, bety difficult. To this day, I can barely play that one section.

The section that follows it is also very repetitive, but the articulation made it difficult, especially at the pace it was playing. The whole section was dotted sixteenth notes, and then some quick scales thrown in between. If one listened to our performance, you can hear how I could barely keep up with this section, I miss counted it, but luckily it ended okay in the end. I’m glad Lucus and I started practicing and learning the song before we got the assignment, we probably wouldn’t have gotten this far, considering all the memorizing involved.

Core Competencies Reflection

During this project, the core competencie shown is communication. My friend Lucus and I had to work together as often as possible to make this work. The very first time we played it together, it was clear we needed to improve on communication and reverse more. The amount of hours we threw into this song was countless, outside of on our own and together school the few times together, criticizing specific sections, especially the last forty bars of the song. It took many tries to correct and fix the sound and timing of it. I think the final product sounded good.

The skills I learned from this experience is how to put together a song with other people. Growing on communication skills and collaboration. Overall this was a fun experience! This was my first small ensemble amd solo project that wasn’t being interfered by covid19. I hope at my new school we do this project because this was really fun!

Stress Bingo and Web Map Reflection

How many stress management tips did you do this past week? What were they? I hung out with my friends, it was nice, no stress, we just talked and whatnot.
What core competencies did you demonstrate with this Disorders Web Map Assignment? Creative thinking. I used this by learning about things that interest me, which was psychological disorders and forced my mind to be creative and make everything I’ve learned onto a piece of paper which had to look nice. I had trouble with figuring out how to place all the subheadings and categories together to make the project not look cramped.

Sensation and Perception Experiment

  • What hypothesis did you come up with for your sensation and perception experiment?  What are your findings?
  • Hypothesis- If people cannot have physical contact with an object, then it will make it more difficult to recognize the object. On our findings we can to the conclusion that this theory is true, people have difficulty identifying objects when they have a barrier blocking their touch sensation.
  • What core competencies did you demonstrate with this assignment?
  • Communication, as a group we had to express our ideas together. During the actual experimenting process we had to verbally explain and communicate what data we were collecting from our test subjects. As well as learning from the other groups about what their experiments were.
