ABOUT US

MOVE4MANA is a student-led initiative concerned for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in developing countries.

Centennial Secondary is taking part in its third MOVE4MANA challenge!  At Centennial Secondary, MOVE4MANA is a club that meets weekly. It is organized into three committees. The committees include Marketing/Activities, Sponsorship, and Tech. Head over to our Committees tab to read more about how each committee operates!

OUR CHALLENGE

Members begin meeting with committee leaders in October to plan a school-wide 30-day challenge. This year, Centennial will commence its challenge on Wednesday, February 10th. During our challenge, we encourage students to get physically active and log their activity into an app called Active for Good. This app will convert their physical activity into points. For every 200 points earned, a Ready-to-Use-Therapeutic food packet will be donated to a country of our choice.

SIGNIFICANCE OF RUTF

RUTF stands for Ready-to-Use-Therapeutic food. Each packet contains 500 calories of essential nutrients for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). RUTF comes in a squeezable packet, so it is easy for mothers to open and for babies to ingest. It takes three packets a day, for up to six weeks, for a child to be saved from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Watch the video above, made by Maria Martini, Executive Director and Founder of Food for Famine Society, to learn more about this miracle-saving packet!

HOW WE OPERATE

We are working in collaboration with wonderful organizations concerned with the severe acute malnutrition (SAM) of children. These organizations include Food for Famine SocietyMana Nutrition, and World Vision Canada

Our sponsor, Food for Famine Society, will graciously supply and pay for all RUTF packets that Centennial students earn. Mana Nutrition, out of Fitzgerald, Georgia, will manufacture these RUTF packets, and Food for Famine Society in partnership with World Vision Canada will distribute these RUTF packets.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MOVE4MANA

MOVE4MANA has both a local and global impact. Centennial students want to save the lives of those suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), while also promoting healthy living in our community.

If we can get active and make an impact in our local community, people from all around the world will receive RUTF, and our quality of life will significantly improve. This initiative will also create awareness regarding nutritional challenges around the world.

MOVE4MANA is a great way to stay physically active while taking a stand in combating worldwide nutrition problems. It is more important than ever to join MOVE4MANA and take part in the fight against world hunger! Let’s get physically active, save lives, and inspire youth.
