Core Competencies Self Reflection

In this course I learned a lot about economies and different scenarios we face in our economy. I learned how to study effectively and how to take notes neatly. Before this, all my work was unorganized, and it was hard for me to study. I have now learned and improved how I study. I will try to take these habits and improvements with me throughout my life.

Math 12 Foundations Self Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

I felt fairly successful in every unit except for the last one. Every unit was easy for me and I never had to study. The last unit was the only challenging part about this course. I didn’t understand much about the logrithmic stuff.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility

I went into this course with confidence because I completed PreCal 11 with an A so I didn’t worry much. I didn’t find the need to study as I focused on my other major courses.

This course helped me gain confidence not only in math but in general. I had a good teacher that made the learning enjoyable and classmates to help me out.

Core Competency Reflection

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by listening to my peers when working together. Different ideas come from different people so when I listen to others in my group, I was able to pick up different perspectives and views that I hadn’t though about. I then pitch my thoughts in and as we collaborate together, we learn more.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take a break from what I am doing and do something that I enjoy. For example, when I need a break from studying, I get up to grab a snack and watch some YouTube for a bit to give my brain a break. I find this useful as I am then able to go back to whatever I was doing with a positive mindset.

I notice when people feel left out so I ask for their thoughts to make sure they feel included. For example, if I am in a group conversation or project and I see someone in my group who isn’t being included, I ask for their opinion. This usually makes them feel like joining in and makes them feel included. I do this whenever I notice someone in that situation.

One Goal

Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include…

I need to work on making sure everyone knows what their task is before they go on to do it. Some people are too shy to say anything so I need to focus on making sure everyone feels comfortable with what their task is. I usually look past what other people might think so I need to better on the part. That is my goal.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Should our criminal justice system be more punitive or rehabilitative? Why?

Our criminal justice system should be more punitive. I notice a lot of people are getting getting charges dropped or sentences lowered for serious crimes.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I can gather evidence to find the facts of a certain scenario or case.

Thinking Core Competency

Me and Nolan’s Button Activity

We used critical thinking to classify and separate buttons according to different characteristics. Nolan and I used our time wisely and came in early to finish the activity. I learned about the importance of classifying in Biology and how to be patient as this activity took a while to complete. In order to complete this activity, I had to use critical thinking.

Core Competency Goals

My first goal is to do well in all classes. I will study every night in order to achieve this goal.

My second goal for this semester is to stay consistent in the gym and try to improve my hockey skills.

My third goal is to try to get help if I need it. I will use library resources and I will approach teachers if I need it.

Our Utopian City (Unique Utopia)

Unique Utopia

This city was designed by: Noah and Eryk.

Our Values

Friendship: In our city, friendship is very important. My city is small so that means everyone knows each other. They do all of the fun activities together and no one is ever board. The reason for lots of cars is that this is the best town ever and everyone wants to meet new people. Over the years, this town will expand from all of the people entering and living.

Trust: In this town, everyone trusts each other. No secrets are kept and no arguments because everyone is best friends with everyone. An example of this is when a father and son are at the top of a building and their holding hands trusting each other. Also, it is mandatory to drive blow the speed of 20km/h because lots of kids wonder around so drivers need to be careful. Also, everyone sleeps together. Yes, in the Community Building Dome, located on the bottom left of the town, is a place where everyone can feel safe. Every ones together which builds trust, friendship, progress and community. There is also the private place if you need to be alone for a night or two. I talk more about this in the next value.

Privacy: If you look at the city, the reason cones are up on the grass field is because that is the place you can go when you need some alone time. Everyone needs social time and private time where you can relax your mind. This is the place to do it. In one building you can go to the top and look at the great view. See the planes coming in, people playing and cars driving while getting the fresh air. The other two buildings are private bonding places where you can spend alone time with a friend.

Progress: In our town, everyday we get something done. Whether it’s the community expanding, factories building, buildings being completed or people finding love. This cities goal is progress. Everyday we do something that makes this city better.

Community: In this city, the most important thing is community. The Community Building Dome is a place where everyone lives and does activities, sports and many more things. It is way bigger than it looks. Once a month the community goes on a plane ride out of town, which is why there are the planes. They are small planes so we need 3 to carry everyone on a vacation. We will need more if and when the city expands.

Symbolic Colors

Blue – Privacy

Green – Adventure

Grey– Community

Red – Progress

Communication Reflection

The point of this project is to show what my groups perfect city would look like if we were to create it. I used the program/website called “City Creator” where you can pick which city you want to create, whether it is medieval, snowy or normal. For my city I picked Normal. Me and my partner Eryk did the majority of the project in class. We each provided our ideas of the city and our values and decided from there. Eryk and I both made a design and we decided and adjusted using both, then it came down to one. I designed the city with me and Eryk’s values and Eryk worked on the value section. We then did the symbolic colors together. We were both on task the whole time. Eryk and I worked well as a group and I would say used time very efficiently over the 2 days of working on this assignment. We did face a problem of picking which design we should use, but we solved it very quickly considering to values of choice. Out of 10 I would say, for how well I think I did with the final product, I would give myself a 7.5 because I think I should have used the snowy design template which more represents me. Next time I would explore other options first instead of just jumping in to the assignment.
