Life Saving Measures

Naloxone: Naloxone kits can save people who have overdosed. If you suspect or think that someone has overdosed, you should give the person Naloxone. Even if the person did not overdose, the Naloxone will not harm the victim. You have to inject the Naloxone into a large muscle area, like the upper arm, buttocks, or thigh. It might take around 3-5 minutes for the Naloxone to kick in. Some kits may come with Nasal Sprays, which then, you would spray into the victim’s nostril. Naloxone will work in the body for 30-90 minutes, so it is important to call emergency and make sure the victim gets treated in a medical facility.

This is a really important topic, because overdoses can happen anywhere. Now I have knowledge about Naloxone kits, and I hope that I will never have to use one, but if I do, now I would know how to use it.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements: I can analyze the evidence, if someone has overdosed (not breathing, skin colour change…etc.) and take action using a Naloxone Kit.
