Core Competency Self-Assessment

Collaboration

During the titrations lab, my partner and I had to collaborate with each other to figure out how to properly perform the lab to get the most accurate results possible. I didn’t really know how to properly do single droplets but my partner showed me how to. We worked together, out sheet fully stamped, and with each trial run, our results got better and more accurate.

Core Competency Reflection Marketing 11

I can confidently interact and build relationships with other group members to further shared goals

Through the process of starting this project, I was paired with 2 of my partners who I didn’t speak to and knew nothing about. To complete this project, I had to reach out to my classmates, get to know them, their strengths and weaknesses and see how we can collaborate in this project. After I reached out to them, we moved to sit together and started talking. I got to know Ashton and Eric and basically what they wanted to achieve with this project and the overall class. I took the lead and started looking for companies we could do. I took Apple, the intro slides, and the shoe company while Ashton and Eric got Ikea and Patagonia. We then worked together o9n our designated section of the project, got everything done, and started rehearsing and going over who was going to present what when presenting.

Comparative Cultures Mid-Term Assessment

Creative Thinking

During this project, I was responsible for making a comparison between Egyptian city streets and Mesopotamia city streets. I needed 2 images for the Egypt map, one to show the entirety of Egypt and the other to show its street view. It was a struggle and I had to use my creative thinking skills to make sure both sides actually looked good and balance it out so that I could show everything I wanted but also make sure there’s also enough information on the screen.

Me and my groupmates also communicated perfectly during this. We kept in touch over the weekend through text messages and social media to check in on everyone and make sure they knew what they were doing and that we would meet the deadline.

Graphing a parabola

my equation compared to

The equation of a parabola is y=a(x-h)+k. In my parabola, the a is a negative value so instead of my parabola opening upwards, it opens downwards instead. The h value in my parabola shifts it over to the left and right and since my value is, 2 it shifts the parabola left by 2. The k value shifts my parabola upwards and downwards and in my case, a 3 shifts my parabola up by 3..

In this assignment, I represented the same mathematical ideas in 3 different. I showed it with a graph, an equation, and a thorough explanation in words.

In this assignment, I used mathematical vocabulary such as parabola, values, and equations.

In this assignment, I formatted it so that the graph is nice, big and clear. I also made the equations for both of the parabolas on my graph nice and big. I then provided an explanation on what makes one different form one another so that its easy to understand.

Spanish chapter 6 test

During the test, I practiced my creative thinking and critical thinking skills. I had to recall all the vocabs and skills that I learned during chapter 6 and apply those skills while writing the test. I had to craft sentences using my newly learned verbs and nouns, conjugate them properly, and proofread them before handing in my tests. I also had to practice my spatial awareness skills because I can’t spend too much time being stuck on a question and had to manage my time properly.

Social Studies 10 Reflection

Canadian Identity Image

Self Reflection

What skills of yours does this showcase?

This shows my artistic skills and the ability to get work done on time and with effort.

What core competency does this fill?

I used my creative thinking skills during this project in order to imagine the end image of the painting and know what I want to work towards.

Why did you choose this?

I chose this project because it was one that I actually enjoyed working on and I didn’t mind demonstrating my skills.

What did you learn during this project?

During this project, I had to reflect back on what it means to be Canadian and portray that out in a form of a painting. I learned how to reflect back on myself more effectively.

Core Competency Reflection

I can experiment different ways with doing things:

I demonstrated this while working on my project because I experimented with different ways of showing my Canadian identity. I tries to do it with a drawing but ended up deciding on painting because it looks better.

I can generate new ideas when I explore:

I generated ideas for my project when I was reflecting in the past about my time in Canada and what it means to me. I then narrowed down all my ideas to the ones that I wanted.

I can monitor my progress and adjust my actions to make sure I achieve what I want

I decided to split up the project in 2 days over the weekend in order for it to be easier to monitor my progress. I decided to just draw it on pencil first on the canvas on the first day before painting on the second. This is the skill that I am going to be working on because my goal is to be able to effectively spread out all my work throughout the week so I don’t feel rushed when working on anything. I will work on this goal by keep trying to spread my work out and I will just get better at it over time.

I give, receive, and act on feedback:

Halfway through sketching out the painting on the canvas, I got some feedback from my mom. I then used that feedback and applied it to the project and made it better

The Simpsons

My analysis

Creating and communication

This unit has helped me learn about irony, allusions, and satire by showing me how it can be used in film and speech using The Simpsons cartoon. An example of this was when Bart was shown holding a “Playdude” magazine. The Simpsons used allusion during that scene since it was a reference to the well known magazine “Playboy”. I expressed my ideas and used concrete evidence in the analysis that I wrote by referencing scenes from the cartoon, and explaining the literary device that was used and what the hidden meaning behind the scene is. Some strategies that I used to improve my text is by following this rule “more is less”. I find that it is much more effective when you get straight to your point without the use of filler words. An example is instead of saying “In my opinion, I think The Simpsons were so successful because” I said “The Simpsons were so successful because”. I also supported my points with direct references to scenes from the cartoon which helps reinforce my points.

Core Competency Reflection

I remain open minded as I explored viable options or alternative, like when I wrote my thesis on why The Simpsons were so successful. If I was honest, I don’t like the show at all but I had to keep my head clear and find out why so many people liked the show so much.

I have valuable ideas to share about why The Simpsons were so successful and do so by stating my points in the beginning and then support those points by providing my evidence. I use direct references from scenes in the show and describe what the hidden meaning that they could be hinting at.

I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as when I had to point out why The Simpsons were so successful. I said that they were successful because of their clever use of literacy devices like satire, irony, and allusions. I then compiled scenes where those literary devices were used and used them as examples to support my point. I then concluded that these multilayered jokes always keeps the audience thinking and engaged in the show, and that is why its so successful.

Core Competency: Communication

My digital photobook

The digital Photobook assignment had me creating an online photobook about something that I like and I chose video games. I first started out with a planning page where I planned which questions and visuals are going to be in my photobook. Through this project, I demonstrated profile 6. Profile 6 means that I demonstrated and communicated with my audience effectively. I demonstrated this when presenting my project because I rehearsed it a lot, had cues on my phone, and spoke with a clear voice. A challenge I encountered when working on my core competency skill was finding an effective way to communicate my interest in videogames through the photobook but I just worked through it. In the end, I think everything turned out good.
