Essay Writing

My Essay

Core Competency Reflection

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to gather individual ideas and list what we agree and disagree with. After completing that, we can sort things out to make our writing more concise and clear. However, communication is mainly the important component that I have noticed when working as a group. Through our group essay project based on the novel “The Catcher in the Rye,” I learned that communicating with our group to share our work or book a time to call and edit each other’s work. Thus, this allowed us to efficiently complete our work in time with our best effort.

I use evidence to make judgments or decisions as demonstrated in this essay as I had to find relevant quotes from the book that would support my topic. Although I have faced some difficulties explaining how this has supported my statement, again, through communication with my group, I was able to figure out what I wanted to say and continue with my writing. Throughout, I had to apply my critical thinking skills because I had to first figure out what kind of quotes would best suit the topic I was writing for my overall main topic of the essay. If the quote seemed irrelevant, I had to search for other quotes.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen during the group discussion. When we faced difficulties trying to make our paragraphs smooth, I spoke out asking for help and giving some suggestions to my group. Due to our communication, I’ve learned how managing things can be accomplished a lot quicker.

One of my goals is to keep practicing my writing, so in the future, I can easily write topics that are randomly assigned in an extending content, organization, expression, and mechanics. Thus, this goal would involve a lot of critical thinking skills, so I’m hoping to improve within that region.

A&P 12: Diffusion Lab

Thinking CC

During the discussion questions, I had to apply my critical thinking skills to maximize my understanding of diffusion. Especially when I had to answer what evidence explained the diffusion of water and iodine across the membrane, I had a hard time understanding what piece of evidence proved that water diffused across the dialysis tubing. Furthermore, when writing a conclusion, I had to critically and creatively think what future experiment could enhance our understanding of diffusion. I mentioned that how different tonicity solutions would affect the turgor pressure of a plant cell. In addition to that, I also mentioned how different temperatures of the external solvent (distilled water) could affect the rate of diffusion moving across the tubing.

Communication CC

I communicated during the lab by discussing the procedure of this lab. Since it required a process to tie a string around the end of the dialysis tubing to prevent from substance leakage, our calm communication helped go through this process smoothly without any conflicts. Furthermore, during the discussion question, my partner and I had to discuss whether either water, starch, iodine, or glucose diffused across the tubing membrane and also apply our critical thinking skills to explain the cause. Overall, during this lab, thinking and communication skills were significant to complete the task without any problem.

EFP 11 Reflection

This is an essay I wrote for my English class. Considering myself as a bad writer, I think I did well performing a “create and communicate” skill as I developed my writing skills over the course. I have learned about the impact that caused due to residential schools and how many people were traumatized. Causing the trauma to be passed down intergenerationally. After learning about this topic, I was able to connect with different texts provided by our teacher to complete my assignments. Overall, I am proud of myself although there were many difficulties when writing many paragraphs.

In my opinion, I think I have improved my thinking skills as I applied lots of critical and creative thinking especially when I tried writing an esaay for the Pocahontas synthesis assignment. As I continued writing, I’ve recognized how well I was able to connect with other sources and expand and express my ideas throughout. Besides from the assignments, during lessons, I have demonstrated lots of communication skills as I always stood up to share my ideas and prsent to the class when we’re doing group discussions.

Chemistry 12 Core Competencies Self-Assessment

I chose the precipitate lab and throughout this lab, I was able to demonstrate my communication skills by discussing with my partner. During the experiment, there were a lot of errors and my partner and I were able to complete our task by discussing. By enhancing this skill, it was possible to reduce many simple errors and eventually get through the whole process. Although we had to redo this lab again, we were able to determine what caused an error. During our first attempt, many people had ppt present on their test tube E, whereas we had no ppt. So, we tried again on after school and noticed how we made a mistake when measuring the volume of the solution. Afterwards, we were able to overcome our mistake and complete this task. Overall, I was able to recognize that enhacing the communication skill is significant especially when dealing with our problems.

Economics 12 Reflection

This poster is my market structure company profile and this artifact showed my strength & growth in this unit as I had complete understanding how different market structures function. Although I had some struggles throughout the unit, I was proud of myself as I realized how well I was able to understand and show my understanding through this project. Throughout this project, I had the opportunity to apply and enhance both my critical and creative thinking abilities. Furthermore, during the design phase, I utilized my creative thinking skills to determine the optimal layout, select appropriate photos, and decide on suitable colors. On the other hand, my critical thinking came into play during the research process. I carefully evaluated and prioritized the relevant aspects of my research, discarding any irrelevant information that didn’t contribute to the project. Furthermore, I actively questioned and probed various aspects of my research to deepen my understanding of the concepts. By doing so, I not only enhanced my own comprehension but also aimed to present the project in a manner that was easily understandable.

2022~2023 Year End Concert Band Reflection

Throughout the second semester, my experience with the senior concert band at school has been truly memorable and transformative. As a member of the band, I have witnessed the growth of both the ensemble and individual musicians, creating a cohesive and powerful musical unit. I was also able to reflect upon myself and check how well I have improved in making a better musical sound with the clarinet. Although there were only two clarinet players, including myself, I think we performed an excellent sound throughout all of our music pieces. Additionally, our conductor’s (Mr. Wallace) guidance and expertise played a significant role in shaping our musical development. His meticulous attention to detail, combined with his ability to inspire us and perform continuous improvement. One of the highlights of the second semester was the year-end concert and the small ensemble concert, where we showcased our collective efforts and shared our music with the audience. The energy and excitement of the theatre were palpable, and the sense of accomplishment upon completing a challenging performance was immensely satisfying. Participating in the senior concert band throughout the second semester has enhanced my musical abilities. As I reflect on the second semester, I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a talented and dedicated ensemble. The senior concert band has been an integral part of my high school experience. Nevertheless, I am going to miss all the grade 12 students who have gone through the band journey with me.

IDS: Inquiry Reflection

My inquiry question is “how to get better at playing guitar.” My inquiry has not shifted for a long time until February because I felt like I want to try different things. However, I spent like 5 months practicing guitar, so I decided to stick with it. Moreover, my inquiry about playing guitar is still valid and I am practicing every day to improve. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like I’m using my time efficiently at school because I get distracted too easily. I am more comfortable practicing by myself at home without anyone looking at me. Yet, I am still preparing for the future presentation even though I practice mainly at home. I personally use YouTube as a reference because it explains everything clearly and I am able to follow along. Over my practices, I haven’t faced any big challenges yet. However, the rough skin on my fingers makes it painful to press the strings. As I forget about the pain, I started to overcome the pain and feel more comfortable pressing the strings with rough skin. At first, I was planning to share my learning through PowerPoint. However, my mentor suggested I create a video instead to show my progression. Although the video may be short, I am trying my best to create a video that is as attractive as possible. In my opinion, I don’t think I will continue working on this inquiry for my Capstone project. Instead, I am going to think of an idea that will be helpful for me in the future. Overall, I think I have demonstrated communication skills throughout my progress as I reached out to my peers for advice which helped me improve a lot.

English First Peoples 11 Reflection

My Artifact:

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Throughout this assignment, I was able to understand the two versions of Pocahontas. (Disney vs Reality) While writing an essay about Pocahontas, I realized how well I improved with my writing, reading, viewing, and listening skills compared to myself last year. I was very proud of myself and I was motivated to continue on to improve and eventually be able to help others. In order to improve my skills, I am going to practice by reading novels, analyzing and writing a summary to improve my writing, reading, and viewing skills.

Core Competencies Reflection

Overall, I think I have improved my “Thinking” skill throughout this assignment. To do this assignment, I had to recall different parts of two stories to compare and contrast. Thinking skill also involved when choosing an appropriate quote from the texts. I was proud of myself when I found good quotes that matched my writing. Thus, I realized how well I used my thinking skills in this assignment and will improve more.

RSelf Study

What you did well and how you can improve your Japanese study habits

I did well preparing for unit tests. Although I procrastinated a lot, I managed to show my best effort through test results. Next time, I want to improve my Japanese study habit by managing my time, studying on a daily basis, and studying with friends.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is Japan. Through this project, I have learned a lot of things about Japan, starting from manners to must-visit places. There were a lot of different things compared to my home country such as table manners. These kinds of stuff made me curious to learn about Japan. After finishing my project, I really wanted to visit Japan one day.

Some short/long-term goals for myself include becoming more fluent in Japanese. My plan to achieve is to continue practicing my language skills. One day, I want to be able to speak with Japanese people with what our sensei taught us. This is why I have participated in a language exchange. I have learned lots through this opportunity.

I appreciate feedback on my work, assignments, and tests and prefer it to come in the form of number grades and proficiency scales. I improve my work by studying before the test day and with my result, I know what I need to focus on.

How will you continue your Japanese language acquisition over the year? I will be continuing with Japanese by watching more anime and visiting sensei’s class sometimes and hanging out with sensei! 🙂

If you could travel back in time, what study/language advice would you give yourself or others? I just want to say to myself: STOP PROCRASTINATING and have better TIME MANAGEMENT!! Another piece of advice I would like to give others is to spend your class time wisely. I have learned that using the given class time is important.
