My Essay
Core Competency Reflection
If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to gather individual ideas and list what we agree and disagree with. After completing that, we can sort things out to make our writing more concise and clear. However, communication is mainly the important component that I have noticed when working as a group. Through our group essay project based on the novel “The Catcher in the Rye,” I learned that communicating with our group to share our work or book a time to call and edit each other’s work. Thus, this allowed us to efficiently complete our work in time with our best effort.
I use evidence to make judgments or decisions as demonstrated in this essay as I had to find relevant quotes from the book that would support my topic. Although I have faced some difficulties explaining how this has supported my statement, again, through communication with my group, I was able to figure out what I wanted to say and continue with my writing. Throughout, I had to apply my critical thinking skills because I had to first figure out what kind of quotes would best suit the topic I was writing for my overall main topic of the essay. If the quote seemed irrelevant, I had to search for other quotes.
Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen during the group discussion. When we faced difficulties trying to make our paragraphs smooth, I spoke out asking for help and giving some suggestions to my group. Due to our communication, I’ve learned how managing things can be accomplished a lot quicker.
One of my goals is to keep practicing my writing, so in the future, I can easily write topics that are randomly assigned in an extending content, organization, expression, and mechanics. Thus, this goal would involve a lot of critical thinking skills, so I’m hoping to improve within that region.
