Rice Krispie Treats

My Reflection

This home-lab was a gift for my auntie. She found out I worked at Starbucks and had asked me to bring her some rice krispies because she loves them so much. When she said this, it gave me the idea to make her them myself and that’s what I did. I made a full pan of them for her and she loved them. She really enjoyed this bars and i had a lot of fun making them for her.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

My Reflection

These muffins were not my best. I’m unsure if i missed baking soda or baking powder but they did not rise how I expected or wanted them too, or I could have over mixed the batter. The muffins tasted so much better warmed up with milk or coffee in the morning. I have not made muffins after this because I did not want them to turn out like this as well. These muffins were still good, however they were a little bit more dense then I had expected them to come out.

Chocolate Chunk Cookies

My Reflection

I enjoy baking, especially in my own home because it’s familiar and i like to bake alone. I had so much fun baking these cookies, and I’m very happy with how they turned out because they were even dough amounts, evenly spaced, and perfectly cooked; not too much, not under. Instead of chocolate chips, I cut up a choclate bar in small squares and added them in to the cookie dough. I liked this better but i feel like I added too much chocolate, so i would reduce it. Although they were very chocolaty, these cookies tasted amazing and balanced with a glass of cold milk.

Apple Skillet Cake

My Reflection

My partner Emma and I made an apple fanned out skillet cake with cinnamon and brown sugar. The cake was a flour mixture and it was the quick-bread method; because we used baking soda and baking powder instead of yeast. The apples were sliced super thinly to layer on top of the cake and sprinkled lightly with cinnamon sugar on the top to caramelize and to add more flavour and candy the apples. This lab really put me to the test because I can be a power-house sometimes, but I took a step back and Emma made the entire cake and I was in charge of slicing the apples very thinly. I knew this was going to be a hard task for me but I would ask her if she needed help or if she was doing okay, so we built teamwork and trust in each other. Our cake turned out to be one of the best cakes in the class and was light and fluffy but still a little bit dense. The warm caramelized apples on the top of the cake tasted delicious together.

Snowball Greek Cookies

My Reflection

These Greek Cookies turned out really good for my group. They were soft and crumbly. They kept their semi-perfect ball shape when they baked so it made it easy for us to roll them in icing sugar. These cookies had a mixture of chopped almonds and chopped walnuts. These cookies were made a little different then normal cookies because these cookies needed icing sugar rather then regular sugar.

Vanilla Cupcakes

My Reflection

This lab was another test lab. We made these 6 cupcakes by ourselves. We were not allowed to ask questions to Ms.Bolli or our fellow classmates, this was 100% individual. My cupcakes turned our really well. They were perfectly baked, moist inside, and they were all the same shape. This was a good lab for myself because they tested my ability to work faster then I normally would and prioritize the steps in making the cupcakes. I did not ice my cupcakes because I almost ran out of time and I do not prefer to ice them. I really liked this lab because I work well by myself and this was a fun lab because they are simple cupcakes.

Mummy Red Velvet Mini-Cupcakes

My Reflection

These mini-cupckaes were made for our class Halloween dessert display. We had teachers and and other students came in and try our Halloween treats. These cupcakes turned out great. They were moist, and very flavourful. My partner did the icing and she did an amazing job. She iced these perfectly for the mummy look that we wanted for the Halloween display. We then added eyes and it looked exactly how we wanted. These cupcakes were a big success and everyone else loved them too!

Mini Lave Cakes

My Reflection

This lave cake lab was a test lab. I was tested to make 2 lave cakes by myself, without the ability to ask Ms.Bolli or any other classmates questions. I believe this was a good lab, and I felt like I did this lab well. My lava cakes turned out well and was perfect in product standards. The outer portion of the cake was well baked and the center was melted and runny. The cakes had a rich chocolate flavor. I really enjoyed this lab and found it easy if you know how to read a recipe. This lab was a fun and easy individual baking test. I’d never made a lava cake prior to this class, and I was surprised when the center of the cake turned out how it is expected.

Pumpkin Rice Krispies

My Reflection

One of my Halloween deserts my group and I made was pumpkin shaped rice krispie treats. These little deserts turned out well. This was my first time making rice krispies and was a little tricky to melt the marshmallows without burning them which seemed to take up a lot more time then I expected. When added the orange food colouring was difficult to coat all the cereal evenly, it finally came together well. Forming the pumpkins were easy, however it dyed my hands orange and when I tried to use food safe gloves, the desert just suck to them. Once the pumpkins were formed, we added a small pretzel and drizzle of green icing to finish it off. The teachers seemed to enjoy the creativity of them and they were a hit with my classmates. Although these can be a little difficult because of the melting of the marshmallows, I have tried to make these at home and melted them in the microwave with 10 second intervals and that seemed to work so much better and cut my cook time in half.
