Pig Dissection

Sienna Prestia

Communication

The pig dissection was the first big dissection that we completed in the course. Though we had a lot of direction, there were also many things we had to problem solve and figure out on our own. My partner and I relied on communication to navigate the dissection together. We would have one of us using the scalpel to cut the desired area, while the other person would hold the flaps back so that we could see what we were doing. While labeling the parts of the pig we also split our duties and used communication. We would talk through which parts we thought were correct and we would switch back and forth holding the flaps and finding the area to label.

Woodworking Edublog Post

Mortise and Tenon

Panels

While building my dresser in wood work, I have started with the two sides. These sides include stiles, rails, mutions and panels which I had to create numerous joints to attach them. Problem solving was used to create this project as I had to work through natural faults within the wood that would affect my project. with the side of the panels it is natural for them to cup and warp. knowing this I suggested an idea to change my plane and create two panels, rather than one to minimize the warping of the wood over time, as well as the difficulty to fit my pieces together. In some cases where the fit wasn’t perfect I used chisels to manually fit my tenons into place as well as sanding my panels for a more workable fit.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Communication

Dichotomous Key

When working in a small group, I am able to work through the progressions of the assignment by clearly communicating with my partner to critical think of solutions. We had to actively listen as well as share our own opinions in order to categories the different buttons. We thought of ways to split up the buttons by comparing similarities and differences, and then further narrowed down the chart by comparing more specific features. When we hit stumps in our progress we shared our ideas and had a safe space to brain storm together without judgment.

English 11 Poetry Reflection

My Poem: Beach Rocks

This is a poem about the vulnerability and emotion of rocks at the beach.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

The purpose of my poem was to show an alternate perspective of the lifespan of a rock. This abstract way of thinking provides a way for readers to feel the vulnerability and emotion that a rock may feel, when giving it these human like qualities. Although unexpected, the audience may find comfort within the alienated qualities and insecurities this rock experiences, and relate it to their personal life.

Creative Thinking Core Competency Reflection

Ever since I was a kid I have had a rock collections, so when choosing an idea to write a poem about, I thought I would be able to write in depth about rocks. The idea of picking things primarily based on looks is relevant for surface level things as well as in our regular day life. My rock collection from when I was a child was pure as I didn’t base everything off of the looks of the rocks. my collection varied and I collected some rocks that seemed to have no beauty to others, as colour or shape wasn’t something they offered. I used my past experiences and current rock collections, as well as the joy I experience when collecting rocks, to inspire me to write a deep and obscure look on a simple rock.

Fashion Industry 12

I can work with others and collaborate on ideas, while working in the Cent Store. I did this while coming up with ideas for promotions and while splitting up the responsibilities to get things done as efficiently as possible.

I can communicate with my peers and adults. I did this while conversing with students and teachers around the school when trying to sell products. I also did this to when organizing and evenly dividing the work among the people in my group.

What’s the Word Around Town?-Whistler

Reflection

While doing this geography project I was able to show how the geography impacts Whistler. I was able to find how it impacted by doing a lot of research about the different condition and geography of my town. While working on my project I thought of different future developments that would make sense and that could thrive considering the different geography, climate and vegetation of Whistler. I was mostly happy with my final product as I restarted it to make it look better and to get more information. For next time I would take more time to complete it.

My Digital Footprint

I googled myself, expecting a few things to possibly come up because of the sports teams i play for. I was not completely surprised by the results, although I did not think multiple different things would show up. All my social media accounts are private although if you search my name things still show up. When you first search my name and go into images a picture of me comes up from when I won nationals with my team B.C team. Along with this picture many other related things came up, such as news articles and statistics from soccer provincials and lacrosse nationals. My existing digital footprint is not at all negative and portrays a minimum yet accurate representation about the person I am in real life. Just by looking at my digital footprint you would be able to tell that I am very dedicated to sports and have had success in the past.

My online footprint is a good example of “Control of identity” because the images and articles that come up do not overshare my information and in no way have a negative impact on my digital footprint. My digital footprint is not only clean but can also have many positive impacts on my future. It would have a positive impact when trying to get scholarships for lacrosse because universities would see my past experiences and accomplishments with high-level lacrosse. It could also have a positive impact for job recruitment because the employers would be able to see that I’m determined, dedicated and a team player, which are all great things for not only sports but in jobs.

Three strategies to keep your digital footprint clean and safe are to keep your accounts private to ensure that your information is safe and can’t be accessed by everyone. Another strategy is to always think twice before you post, comment or put anything out into the digital world because it is stuck there forever. My last strategy is to always remember that your actions can tremendously affect yourself and others so be careful and smart about what you post.

The information that I learned and want to pass on is that you should focus of keeping a limited but accurate digital footprint that has a positive impact on yourself, your future and others. Always remember the impact a single post can have not only positively but negatively. Therefore be smart and safe online.

Speech Unit Reflection

While completing my speech I went through ups and down and learned many new useful things. I found that using the speech outline was very helpful because I was able to break my speech into chunks. At times while doing assignments like these I tend to get very overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. However by using this outline I was able I complete my speech bit by bit. I also found learning how to get onto all the resource sites helpful because I was able to find accurate and relevant information quickly. I found it very helpful while doing my citations that the data abases I used already gave me the information I needed. The information sheet on the work cited assignment that Ms. Toy gave us was very helpful because I was able to double check to make sure I had all the information I needed. When researching for my topic, I used a few different data bases such as Canada in Context and Global Issues in Context. I found that using the news articles was the easiest way to find the information and statistics I needed. To improve next time I think that I could search multiple different resource sites instead of a few, this way I could fine even more relevant information and maybe information more up to date.
