Explanation / Brief History: The town of Athegan was established in the year of 1847, by a man by the name of ‘Frank Wales’. His family owned a vast amount of slaves (10-15). When his parents died, he sold them all to another man named Charles Moore. Afterwards Wales used the slave money to develop this small town that was not very well known as it locates on the outskirts of Norwich, England. Children and women would work in the cotton mills, whereas the men would work in the brick factory. They would have to take turns cleaning up the barn and taking care of horses. The men and women factory workers were separated and would get severely beat, if to be caught with one another. Workers got payed 5 pence and 3 meals a day with a place to sleep. The baker and butcher get payed 10 pence per day and housing. Individuals were forbidden from leaving the town as Wales demanded that the population increase and command a larger society. The self-absorbed leader’s intentions did work out, as people would come on their horses or by foot thinking Athegan was a place where people could have freedom but on the contrary was really laborious town. They worked for Wales to make and sell bricks

Media Fluency Reflection

The software I used to construct my town is called, “City Creator”. It is an online website that you are able to build cities/towns on. You can choose the background of your choice, decide if building should have roofs or not, and add live objects. Such as horses, people or trees. I did not have a hard time building the town, it was pretty straightforward. The only problem was that I couldn’t turn any of the objects I placed down on the land. That made me only able have the buildings or people facing one direction, but I managed. To plan, I wrote down some of the things I wanted to include in this town, for instance, brick factory, cotton mill and bakery. I then started testing out my towns layout on the website and played with the different settings until I was content with the outcome. The sources I used to create this make believe town were from the book, “Lyddie”.Lyddie was a factory girl and it was clear that life working in the factory was not easy. Another source was from work we had done previously in class and I looked over my notes and got inspired there. ‘City Creator’ is on the older side and maybe out of date, but it works exceptionally well and gets the job done. I like this website, but in the end, I do expect there to be better software to use like SimCity or even Minecraft. You can do so much more on these software and definitely add way more detail.
