Linear System Group Assignment

Purpose

We were put into groups to create our own linear system and show how to solve the solution using algebra and graphing.

Curricular response

My group chose a solution randomly first before graphing the lines. We graphed 2 positive horizonal lines based off were we put the solution. When choosing the where the lines when, we made sure it went through the solution and the Y Intercept was a whole number. When finding the solution algebraically, we first had to find both equations of the line. When choosing which method to use, we started with addition but struggled with the fractions. Therefore, we changed to substitution method which was a much easier option since we could see Y was already isolated. Our first step was to get rid of the brackets. When we solved for X and Y, we made sure it was the same solution as our graph.

Core competency self-assessment

I find it easy to be part of a group, because its easy to work with people who are at the same level of understanding with me. I like how in this assignment everyone worked together and we could ask each other for other opinions and ideas. I participate in class room activities that improves the class, I fully contributed into this project, giving my thought and ideas while also listening to others. I recognize different part of views and can disagree respectfully. I was able to listen to people give ideas, yet I was able to explain why they were wrong.

Linear and non-linear equations

Linear equations:

x=4

This is a linear equation, I am able to tell by the graph because the line goes up and down straight. I am able to tell by the equation since the exponent on the variable is 1.

y=1/3x-2

This is a linear equation. I can tell because the line on the graph is straights and there is no exponent on the variable in the equation.

2x-3y=12

This is an example of another linear equation. I can tell by the graph because the line is straight. I can tell by looking at the equation this is linear because there are no exponents on the variable.

Non-linear equations

y=(x+1)(x+1)

This is a non-linear equation. I can tell by the graph because the line is not straight, it curves. I was able to tell by looking at the graph because multiplying X by X makes X square. A variable with an exponent greater then 1 is not linear.

y=1/2xcubed

This is a non-linear equation. I am able to tell by the graph because the line is curved. I can tell by the equation because the x is cubed.

Self assessment

  • I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I used desmos on my computer to explore different linear and non-linear equations.
  • I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I looked at my graph too see if the line were linear or non linear.
  • I justified my conclusions with evidence when I wrote my conclusion about the graph and equations and download my graphs to my computer to show evidence.

CPR Reflection

My Artifact

One thing I have learned in this course is how heart attacks and strokes are possible, and how to react towards them. I never thought about how it can happen anytime, and taking the time to learn and practice can save somebodies life. A key take away on this CPR is how to act and respond to somebody who could possibly be experiencing an issue. This unit connects to the nutrition unit because nutrition is a key aspect to being healthy, heart attack free and other serious problem free. Eating properly, physical exercise and less stress is all healthy.

Core Competency Reflection

I can ask open-ended questions to gather information

I can ask questions when I miss understood or don’t know something

I can identify my strengths and identify my potential

I can see what I need to work on and improve in cpr

I can identify how my actions affect the community or environment and I can make positive change.

I can focus and encourage others to focus in learning an important topic

I participate in activities that support my well-being and take responsibility for my well-being.

I fully participate in practicing cpr and using aed

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: How I manage school-related stress

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I like to be able to take brain breaks and possibly focus on something new.

When I make mistakes, I don’t beat myself up. Instead I learn from my mistakes and apply them for next time.

I can prevent some school-related stress by refocusing on something calming, like listening to music or exercise.

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include taking breaks from stressful things, good rest and nutrition.
