Comparative Cultures Mid-Term Assessment

Inquiry

My group and I worked together to research information on Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt’s large scale infrastructure and compare the two. We spend a few days searching the internet for information and details we could use in comparing the two. We also made a hand build Pyramid and Ziggurat to show the difference between the two structures. By the end of our project, my group and I were able to understand the differences between both architectural structures as well and learn more information and Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.

Core Competency’s

Creative thinking took place when my group and I build a ziggurat and a Pyramid. I know a Pyramid looks easy, but it takes some skill and effort to be able to cut out 4 identical walls and hold them perfectly to glue. An extra piece we added on to the pyramid so looked less boring is that you are able to open up the pyramid to see inside. Inside was a replica of what a real pyramid looked liked. I think being able to see inside the pyramid was a part of creative thinking because we came up with a good way to make our piece more interesting and understandable.

My Artifact

Create and Communicate

This is my artist spotlight poster, I created a poster on a female artist Lee Maracle. By making this project and learning about the artist, I learned about Lee Maracle writings and herself. She has made many novels and texts about Indigenous issues woman and others have faced. Through this project I’ve grown on my creative skills by making a relevant poster and my listening/ viewing skills by researching and engaging effort. By learning more about indigenous issues, I’ve taken another step towards reconciliation and encourage others to continue to learn.

 creative thinking

During this course, I’ve expanded on my creative thinking. I am able to create and design projects with meaningful and thoughtful ideas behind them. I analyze evidence and make decisions on what to add or not to my projects. I am able to see what is important or not.

My Artifact

Curricular Competencies Reflection

For my Artifact, I decided to choose the character infographic I made. I would put myself into the comprehend and Connect category. During the character assignment and lessons, I learned how to analyze characteristics such as speech, emotions, thoughts and more. In my infographic, I took a character from a story, “The Mountain Legend,” and analyzed the characteristics of the main character named Jason. I learned lots on characters and can demonstrate and show elements of characteristics on my own. I am proud of the effort I put into making the Infographic as well as the learning and engaging efforts I took to be able to make character analyzation on my own.

Core Competencies Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

During this assignment, I expanded in the Thinking category for core competencies. This assignment had lots to do with reading and thinking about texts to analyze characteristics of Jason. To analyze Jason, I read text and used some of his actions and words for evidence to decide his characteristics. I also had to think about the infographic theme to shape the character and story. Because the story setting is in a campground, I used the sticker tool to make a small camp scene on the bottom of my infographic.
