Creating a Model Factory Town

Name of the town: Hogsfed

Company Name: Woolend Factories

Resources available: wood, coal, wool, wheat, and yarn

Elements of the town: textiles factory, farmhouse, coal mines, and housing.

Population: 48 citizens

Explanation / Brief History: This small town was founded by Alexander Woolend in 1821. The town is quite poor as there isn’t many people to work. This town is in the middle of no where in Europe, they have to travel very far to get to the neighboring town . There is lots of drama within this town between the Woolend family and the Martin family caused by the ownership of land.

How was the ease of access in building the town, and what software did you use specifically?

I used Minecraft to build my town. Even though I’m not very good at building I thought it was pretty easy.

Were you able to apply the skills you learned in the planning stages appropriately to a digital environment?

I had what I wanted to do in my mind then I researched if it was historically accurate.

What were the sources you researched that made this an “authentic make-believe” town?

I used the book ‘Lyddie’ to research my factory town. I also searched up 1800s factory town and looked at the images.

Is there other software online that could have done the job better? Explain

I don’t think any software is better for this project then Minecraft. Minecraft allows for so much creativity. I’ve also played Minecraft for a long time so I know how to use it and enjoy playing it.
