Creating a Positive Digital Footprint
In my infographic, I included the definition, significance, and danger of digital footprint. I used the footprint graphics and simple colours in order to elevate interest and engagement through the meaningful and clear visual infographic. Additionally, I used a program called Piktochart because it allows users to create infographics easily with high quality. Unique templates and designs also make the infographic more appealing and captivating.
Personal/Social Competency Reflection
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences including social standing and future opportunities, so I adjust my actions to create a kind environment on the internet. The fact that many people are currently aware of online reputation leads to digital footprint and online interactions becoming integral components nowadays. Because the level of an individual’s social value is depending on online interactions, online activities may lead to high social status. On the other hand, negative impacts occur such as cancel culture which is an act of public ostracism. The act excludes people on social media and ostracizes them from society. An individual’s reputation and livelihood can be endangered by a digital footprint. Furthermore, Digital Footprint impacts future opportunities such as interviews and applications. Studies show that 93% of employers search names before making a final decision which indicates that employers are not likely to hire people who have a negative digital footprint. The significance of digital footprint not only affects social standing but future opportunities as well. Therefore, I always endeavor to create a kind online environment and emphasize my strengths on the internet since social media has become an essential part of my life.
One of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence includes managing personal accounts on the internet. Using strong passwords and privacy settings is one of the significant strategies to manage accounts. Studies show that “Passwords provide the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your computer and personal information” by protecting computers from hacking. However, sharing sensitive personal data such as full names, addresses, phone numbers, and passwords not only causes hacking, but the sharing may cause identity theft, stalking, or location threats as well. Another way of managing accounts is thinking twice before posting anything through social media. People should think about the reader, remember the golden rule, and ask themselves would they say the contents in real-life interactions. Also, thinking before posting will help individuals to consider whether the post is unnecessary, hurtful, or illegal. Since social media plays a crucial role in life, managing personal accounts is one of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence.
One of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships is to keep contacting companions and acquaintances via social media. Social networks such as Instagram and Facebook help individuals to maintain relationships with people they haven’t seen for years. Messaging, tagging, and leaving comments are also some ways to build and maintain online relationships but make sure to ask for permission before tagging anyone. The internet also helps people to make new interconnections with others. For instance, casting directors use social media to find actors or entertainers. Furthermore, building and maintaining online relationships benefit psychological health, especially during this period of the Covid-19 scare. People may be overwhelmed by the feeling of isolation, but keeping in touch with friends through social media reduces loneliness.
