Japanese Internment camp

By: Zhya Ghani

Should the Japanese Canadians be sent to Internment camps? I do not think we are making the right decision by

moving them to Internment camps, because they are getting their properties taken from them and have not done

anything wrong to be sent to Internment camps. The RCMP has proved that the Japanese Canadians have not done

anything wrong, and they are loyal to Canada so there is no reason for us to send them away. They are also getting

their houses taken and resold, and that is not necessary because it shouldn’t have been taken from them in the first

place. They are also ruining lives of Japanese Canadian kids who were born here and have no connection to home and

have done absolutely nothing wrong, there is no need to harass these families with young kids and splitting them

apart by putting them in camps, a kid on my sons soccer team was forced to live his life behind and go to a camp just

because he is Japanese. I think it is racist for us to put them in camps and they have done nothing wrong and have

been loyal to Canada so I think they should be let go and given something in return for the harassment they had to go

through.

Curricular Competency

I did assess and explained the changes the Japanese-Canadians went through. In my research

handout. I did this by briefly explaining what the Japanese-Canadians were going through and why it’s wrong.

I made an ethical judgement about the action of internment the Japanese-Canadians in my

paragraph. I did this by giving my opinion on why I think it was wrong for the Canadians to put the Japanese-Canadians in camps.

Core Competency

I did analyze evidence from the research I did and made judgements. I did this by reading the facts and coming up with an answer I thought was justifiable.

I now understand what is important to me and I can explain my values. I understand that we need to know about the past so history doesn’t repeat itself.

I can now understand and tell, after examining the facts of the possible threat from Japanese-

Canadians in Canada and the opinions of various people, the difference between fact and opinion. I understand why some people were scared and why they were worried but most were just stereotypes.
