Core Competency Reflection: Personalized Tile

Communication

This is how I selects images and words to create an impact for different audiences: While I created my personalized clay tile I used lots of strategies that could enhance my process in making it and my overall outcome. I began planning and drawing out my designs on a piece of paper that describes me as a person, then I plan out the colours for my glazing options I chose colours that expressed my design like light pink, beige and red.

Critical and reflective thinking:

I also used my critical and reflective thinking skills to succeed in my personalized tile. I analyzed lots of artistic patterns on my tile to go with every colour of the theme. My critical thinking came in when I was planning out different designs and colours to match the theme of my tile. My reflective thinking came, as I was looking for strengths and areas for improvement. In the end of this process, I used my critical and reflective thinking to achieve my original plan for this tile.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Communication

My experience for my paper quilling project was wonderful in my opinion, that’s why I chose this artifact out of all of the others. This project expressed my skills with my hands better than any other project. And I communicated my ideas by sharing them with other people to see which idea is better.

Thinking

I developed my ideas for my project through my paper quilling planning sheet and a variety of Pinterest tutorials, and asking questions to make unique shapes for it.

Personal

My strengths and qualities with this project really helped me with my skills with paper, because when I got the hang of it, it helped me improve socializing with my peers, when it became easier.

Self Reflection

  1. Much I learned about this genocide in less than two weeks and doing a whole project on it.
  2. Knowledge and capabilities skills
  3. Because of how much I enjoyed learning about this genocide and getting to pick my own topic.
  4. That the Rwanda genocide is one of the top 10 deadliest genocides in history and it was listed third in the list.

Core Competency Reflection

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. When I follow the criteria of the project properly and studying the topic before I’m finished.

I can identify my strengths and identify my potential. When I am focus and I can finish all my work in class with no distractions.

I can ask open-ended questions to gather information. When I am stuck on what to write when I’m answering a difficult question, or if I’m curious about a certain topic.

I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. When we are divided in different groups and I listen politely about other people’s opinions and thoughts about the topic we are learning about.

What I can improve on in this course is participating more and asking more questions on subjects that I want to learn more about. My goal for next year is to listen better on class lectures about important topics and how I’ll achieve this goal is by putting all my distractions in my bag and listen carefully.

PHE 10 AH Reflection

My Artifact

Today this morning I feel very tired since this is the last week of school, and its a Monday.

Self-Assessment

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus I can think of a couple things. The little things I usually do is, put my phone in my bag, take a couple drinks of water and I start thinking about what I need to focus on. This helps me focus more especially when Im in a more quiet room. Some things of the things I do to stay physically healthy include, getting 2-3 hours of exercise everyday and staying hydrated.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal, by including everyone on my team and asking them what they are comfortable with to make everyone feel happy and included.

I can explain when something is unfair and advocate for others, when I tell the boys that they should pass to girls and include them in everything.

I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener, to improve my work in different units when I’m not to familiar with it.

I can reflect on my thinking, when I am curious to try different things when I am in PE.

The Simpsons

My Analysis

Creating and Communication

The Simpsons unit for me added more examples and details for when we were learning different types of irony, satire, and allusion. Before we had just learned the meanings of those 3 different types of definitions, but The Simpsons showed us how they used their humour by using allusions, irony, and satire. The literary devices we did in class helped me understand the meaning behind the jokes and humour in the episodes we watched. I expressed my ideas on my essay, by stating the reasons and statements on why The Simpsons is the most successful animated series in U.S tv history. This helped me with my thesis, and expressing more evidence. One of the strategies I used to improve my writing in this essay was thinking back to one of the episodes we watched before, and how it was an allusion because it was referring directly to an 80s movie.

Core Competency Reflection

I can describe how satire, irony and/or allusion relates to (make a connection to another text or show, because of how the Simpsons show their audience the meanings behind stories in the episodes they showed allusions with deeper meanings in comedy.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is, by not starting my sentences with I think or “I” in general make my rating more interesting.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this, by looking back at our literary devices and using examples in my paragraphs to understand better of how irony, satire, allusions, are used in these episodes and to see the true meaning behind the joke for me to see why its suppose to be funny.

Carrot Cake

Making and Sharing Reflection

Making

For this recipe I identified the proper measurements for all on my own to create this cake. This lab let me demonstrate my baking/cooking skills all on my own, which I loved because it gives me more responsibility for me to make this cake turn they way its suppose to turn out. the progress for me was kind of stressful in a good way because I had to get my cake in the same time as my groups and they were finished before me.

Sharing

Overall the finished product was amazing and wonderful, and it turned out the way I wanted it to turn out which made me stress about it less. The process for choosing what I wanted in my cake was easy this time because I was making it by myself and I had the choice to put apple or pineapple and I chose pineapple and coconut and that was a great decision for me. Me and my group worked well together in the lab they helped me with little things back and forth.

Core Competency Reflection

my strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include me staring the ingredients that is not in our kitchen every time I’m ingredient person. And writing down the equipment I need for both sections in ingredient and unit.

if there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to make a plan on how we can make everyone feel comfortable about what they are making and eating and checking in with my teacher if it’s okay.

I show others that they truly value their contributions by complementing something they did on their own. And giving them extra help if they are doing harder work than me.

I know the group is working well together when I see everyone is doing good on their own part when we had to make several different things in one day. And everything that we planned ahead of time is actually going well, especially with cleaning after we’re done baking/cooking.

Favourite Recipe

Waffles with berry sauce

Making and Sharing Reflection

I really enjoyed making these waffles with berry sauce because it was one of the fastest labs we’ve ever done. This lab was more calm and slow instead of rushing everything to be done for us to eat in class. the waffles my group made were crispy and golden brown, and I think that’s how their suppose to taste and look like. Me and my group worked really well with us making individual things, everything turned out good I feel like we could’ve made the second sauce that were suppose use for the crepes because everything we made was fast and easy.

Core Competency Reflection

Communication prompts

  • this recipe helped me learned in my group that its better to organize everything before cooking so the lab can go smooth, we talked about who makes what and our jobs after were done eating I made the berry sauce and the two other people made the waffles and crepes.

Collaboration prompts

  • I show others in a group but I truly value their hard work and dedication when it’s a busy lab we all help each other in all different ways, none of us have really been lazy when it comes to cleaning after we’re done cooking I’m cooking and baking.

  • One goal I have for myself going forward in this class is trying new things such as recipes knife skills and participating more

    Our Utopian City:

    Snow City

This city was designed and created by Zoe, Eshana, and Nick.

    Snow City Values

Community- Living in a city means, living in a place where community is important. A Good community where its safe, happy, kind, and has a great environment, is where people would want to live for the rest of their lives. Snow city’s community is a joyful and free place to explore, that includes companionship, goodwill, devotion, etc. Its important for this community to stay positive, in order for people to feel safe and confident. At Snow City our community is always fun and cheerful, when people ice skate around the Christmas tree in the park , ski or snowboard on top of the mountains, and spread love and kindness to each other while doing it.

Health- Health is a trait that each of us value. How we included it in our city was by adding a hospital, gym, and people either snowboarding or skiing. A hospital is a good way of showing health because they try to keep you in good health if you aren’t. They tell you what to do or take to stay healthy. The gym represents health because the gym help you maintain your weight and, keeps you on a good diet. Your weight and what you eat are a big part of help. Skiing and Snowboarding are both sports and doing sports is good for your health so is the communication you have with your team. they keep you motivated and help you have a positive mindset. This is also a part of being healthy, not just with your body but healthy for you mentally. All of these are located in our city. The hospital is next to the church, the gym is next to the restaurant and the snowboarders and skiers are by the snowy mountains.

    Building healthy relationships –
One of the values that our group feels that is really important to have is healthy relationships. The buildings in our city that represent healthy relationships are: The hotel, this spot could be used for honeymoons/family vacations. The restaurant, this spot can be used for family dinners, date nights, and outings with friends. Park this spot is a place where young kids and moms can make friends and connect through play. Houses that are close together establishing a trust between the families. I believe healthy relationships is a key value to have in any town because whether its friends, family, or lovers’ healthy relationships establish not only trust but also a sense of belonging as you feel happy knowing you are surrounded by people your close to.

    Symbolic Colours:

Blue- The colour blue symbolizes trust and loyalty two things that our group believes is crucial to a good city. Trust and loyalty between citizens establish strong bonds and connections amongst people which we believe is really important. This colour can be found throughout the city on buildings and in the sky.

    White-
The colour white symbolizes successful beginnings and protection. With a new city our group believes heavily in the citizens feeling safe and the colour white symbolizes that. Also, successful beginnings are key in the start of a new city so white seems fitting. White can be seen all around our city as white is the colour of snow.

    Communication Reflection

for my groups city design project we designed our future city. Our group used a program that is called City Creator in order for us to design and create our city. We communicated with one another in class, by taking turns and coming up with idea’s on how to build and design our city. We shared our ideas together to see what would work for our city, and listened to each other one by one. My responsibility was helping with the design and writing a paragraph about our community value, and each member contributed to the design by sharing their ideas. We worked together in class efficiently, and very well as group, and used our time wisely before class ended. How we made our decisions was we picked three values we wanted for our city, and each of us chose one of the values to write a paragraph on, and no we did not face any problems on this project together.  Yes I was satisfied with our final product because of what our values represented. the only thing we could improve on was having more time.
