Social Justice – Core Competency Self-Assessment

Positive personal and cultural identity

I chose positive personal and cultural identity because I have learned much about cultural backgrounds and how settlers should accept their culture and recognize their struggles in Canada’s history—having the ability to make choices and values and being able to recognize skills and qualities. When working with our identity maps, along with others, I was able to discover myself and what I value about my identity. The vlog project made me think about what it means to really be a settler and have the privilege to clean water and being able to stay warm in cold months.

Self-Assessment of core competencies/psyche 12

I take on roles and responsibilities in a group and do my share by doing the work that I was assigned and finishing them on time so that it doesn’t affect our grades or work.

I am kind to others and support others when they need it by building off their ideas and asking questions, if something is unknown I will work with them and we will find out information together and learn what we didn’t know.

I find it easy to be part of a group since I enjoy working with others and collaborating on ideas. I find it nice to have someone who can correct me or build off my ideas.

I encourage others to share their voices and value diverse perspectives because I like to hear other people’s opinions and talk about different perspectives from my own, I believe that everyone’s voices and ideas should be heard. I don’t force, but defiantly encourage others to speak up about something that they believe in or want to say.
