My project

Core Competency Reflection

Taking this course really opened my eyes. At the start, I thought I knew a bit about Indigenous people and their history, but I quickly realized how little I actually understood. Learning about things like residential schools, the Indian Act, and cultural appropriation hit different when it was explained through real stories and voices.
One of the ways I gathered info was through interviews and firsthand accounts. Hearing directly from survivors was powerful and helped me understand things on a more emotional level. I used those experiences when we worked on group projects, like the one about stereotypes in the media. Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in our group presentation on cultural appropriation. I explained my section using examples that helped connect history to today’s world. I use evidence to make judgments or decisions as demonstrated in my media reflection, where I used examples from real TV shows and articles to explain stereotypes.

One goal I have for myself is to keep building on my awareness and continue learning, even after this class.

The prompt I want to focus on is:

I seek, develop and weigh options as demonstrated by…”

Spanish 11 Core Competency Self-Assessment

I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. I was able to represent my learning of unit 6 by creating a PowerPoint presentation on paella. The image above is a slide from the presentation. Using what I learned I was able to describe what paella is, how to make it, and the culture significance behind it. During this presentation I was able to learn more about the Spanish culture. Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in this presentation. I created a script for this PowerPoint and I was able to present in a clear and understandable manner. It was a challenge because I had to present in Spanish, however I was able to get my message across. I can receive and act on feedback. From the feedback I was give after this project I was able to learn and improve on my grammar. This helped me because I had an oral exam the following week.

Clothoid Loop Physics 12

One key takeaway I learned today about how physics works in real life, especially in the context of circular motion, is related to why roller coaster loops are not perfectly circular. The main reason for this is the forces acting on a roller coaster car as it moves through the loop.

In a circular loop, the speed of the roller coaster changes depending on its position. At the top of the loop, the car is moving slower, and the gravitational force tries to pull it down. If the loop were a perfect circle, the car could potentially lose contact with the track if the speed isn’t high enough, resulting in a dangerous situation. To prevent this, the loop is designed with a clothoid curve, where the shape gradually changes from a shallow curve to a steeper one, allowing the car to maintain a more consistent speed and ensuring that the forces acting on the car (like gravity and normal force) are balanced throughout the loop.

This ensures that the car experiences a safe, comfortable ride while also minimizing the risk of “airtime” or losing contact with the track. It’s a great example of how real-life physics needs to adapt theoretical concepts (like circular motion) to create safe and efficient experiences.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: How I manage school-related stress

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go on walks or get a form of exercise. This allows me to re-focus will getting healthier.

When I am feeling anxious about a test, I can calm myself by listening to music. This helps me calm down and relax while staying focused. This puts me into a flow state.

When I make mistakes, I don’t beat myself up. Instead I try to understand what went wrong and how to improve for the future.

I can prevent some school-related stress by not letting it get to me. I have the mentality of one step at a time and this allows me to preserve.

Literary Studies 11

“Students communicate to share and build on one another’s creative ideas”

A majority of this class was taught through discussion. I was able to communicate my idea and opinion to the class and listen to other as well. Many discussion were ignited by others idea’s and it allowed the class to be inclusive.

“Thinking critically to recognize and appreciate different perspectives is key to both interpreting and creating communications”

In this class we read Macbeth and Julius Caesar, and we dove into interpreting characters thoughts and their perspective. This strengthen our ability to recognize different perspective and appreciate it.

I communicate clearly and purposefully, using a variety of forms appropriately

I was able to communicate clearly in my novel presentation. I was able to do this using PowerPoint and my presenting skills. Furthermore, I was able to communicate my understanding through numerous tests.

I can think “outside the box” to get innovative ideas and persevere to develop them

I thought outside the box when I was making my novel study presentation. I made my PowerPoint outside the box and it allowed me to convey certain emotions about the book.

Conics Project

I began this project by uploading a picture of myself. The first step was to create the jawline. To achieve an accurate chin, I used a parabola, the easiest and most effective method, as it allowed me to make a sharp yet prominent chin. I then used straight lines to define the rest of the jaw, highlighting my jawline. For the sides of the face, I utilized small straight lines, giving the head a more realistic feature. I chose hyperbolas for the top of the head to create a soft, rounded shape. Using hyperbolas was effective in forming a smooth curve that emphasized my hairline. Additionally, I applied hyperbolas for the inner ears, which contributed to shaping the overall head. For the neck and chin, I used straight lines. Creating the shirt posed a challenge, but I could design it by combining parabolas, hyperbolas, and straight lines. This combination helped me achieve a realistic shape with the appearance of wrinkles. The eyes were crafted using restricted circles. By manipulating the domain and range, I could give my eyes a sleepy yet natural look. My nose was formed with parabolas and straight lines, allowing me to adjust its shape, while the nostrils were made using ellipses, providing a slim yet wide appearance. The hair proved to be the most challenging aspect of the project. However, I successfully applied concepts from previous units to create a sine graph. I manipulated this sine graph to give it a pointed appearance and shifted it to represent my hair accurately. Throughout the project, I employed a variety of shapes, including straight lines, parabolas, hyperbolas, circles, ellipses, and sine graphs.

Chemistry 12 Core Competency

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group: I do my share. The key to a successful lab is clear communication with peers. Throughout the lab, I was able to take on the role in charge of heating and watching the precipitate dissolve. I did my share and allowed my partner to do his. Furthermore, we had clear communication on our roles and responsibilities. This allowed us to have a quick and thorough lab that developed our skills in determining the solubility constant.

Drafting and Design 11

One assignment that I found particularly enjoyable was the Cabinet project. It was an excellent opportunity to apply my AutoCAD and Fusion skills, which are essential for my future as an engineer. This project taught me how to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing cabinet. The lessons I learned, particularly the importance of communication in design when conveying my design using dimensions, were valuable. Although I faced challenges, such as incorrect dimensioning, I overcame them and grew from the experience, ultimately strengthening my abilities in these programs.

I can build the skills I need to make a project work even if it takes a few tries (THINKING)

I can experiment with different ways of doing things (THINKING)

I can understand and shar information about a topic that is important to me (COMMUNICATION)

Goal for Semester 1

Some of the things I plan to do to stay mentally and physically healthy include going to the gym, eating healthy food, and hanging out with my friends. I will plan to go to the gym everyday and focus on eating meals that are organic. On top of that, I will communicate with my friends and have regular hangouts. I want to celebrate my accomplishments such as getting straight A’s so I will plan to use my time wisely and seek help if need. Furthermore, I will work hard inside and outside the classroom.

Spanish 10 Core Competency Reflection

I can work with others to achieve our goal. I am able to communicate and create a safe place where everyone can express the opinions. I can reflect on my thinking to improve future projects. I am able to reflect on homework and projects in order to get a better mark in the future. I can advocate for myself in times where my voice is silenced. I am able to express my emotions and opinions through various forms in order for me to be heard.

In my opinion, creating and presenting a script in Spanish is quite easy. Being fluent in Romanian made it easy as many verbs, nouns, and accents are pronounced similarly giving me the ability to present without hesitation. Writing in Spanish at times, can be difficult however, with help from my professor and peer tutor I was able to preserver any challenge. Moreover, I was able to use various tools to showcase my Spanish abilities. Textbooks and cuadernos allowed me to practice my skills and improve my understanding. Test gave me a chance to prove my skills that I had been refining in the textbooks and cuadernos. Overall, writing and presenting the script was easy and I was able to showcase my skills through the scripts and tests.
