When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go on walks or get a form of exercise. This allows me to re-focus will getting healthier.
When I am feeling anxious about a test, I can calm myself by listening to music. This helps me calm down and relax while staying focused. This puts me into a flow state.
When I make mistakes, I don’t beat myself up. Instead I try to understand what went wrong and how to improve for the future.
I can prevent some school-related stress by not letting it get to me. I have the mentality of one step at a time and this allows me to preserve.
“Students communicate to share and build on one anotherโs creative ideas”
A majority of this class was taught through discussion. I was able to communicate my idea and opinion to the class and listen to other as well. Many discussion were ignited by others idea’s and it allowed the class to be inclusive.
“Thinking critically to recognize and appreciate different perspectives is key to both interpreting and creating communications”
In this class we read Macbeth and Julius Caesar, and we dove into interpreting characters thoughts and their perspective. This strengthen our ability to recognize different perspective and appreciate it.
“I communicate clearly and purposefully, using a variety of forms appropriately“
I was able to communicate clearly in my novel presentation. I was able to do this using PowerPoint and my presenting skills. Furthermore, I was able to communicate my understanding through numerous tests.
“I can think โoutside the boxโ to get innovative ideas and persevere to develop them“
I thought outside the box when I was making my novel study presentation. I made my PowerPoint outside the box and it allowed me to convey certain emotions about the book.
I began this project by uploading a picture of myself. The first step was to create the jawline. To achieve an accurate chin, I used a parabola, the easiest and most effective method, as it allowed me to make a sharp yet prominent chin. I then used straight lines to define the rest of the jaw, highlighting my jawline. For the sides of the face, I utilized small straight lines, giving the head a more realistic feature. I chose hyperbolas for the top of the head to create a soft, rounded shape. Using hyperbolas was effective in forming a smooth curve that emphasized my hairline. Additionally, I applied hyperbolas for the inner ears, which contributed to shaping the overall head. For the neck and chin, I used straight lines. Creating the shirt posed a challenge, but I could design it by combining parabolas, hyperbolas, and straight lines. This combination helped me achieve a realistic shape with the appearance of wrinkles. The eyes were crafted using restricted circles. By manipulating the domain and range, I could give my eyes a sleepy yet natural look. My nose was formed with parabolas and straight lines, allowing me to adjust its shape, while the nostrils were made using ellipses, providing a slim yet wide appearance. The hair proved to be the most challenging aspect of the project. However, I successfully applied concepts from previous units to create a sine graph. I manipulated this sine graph to give it a pointed appearance and shifted it to represent my hair accurately. Throughout the project, I employed a variety of shapes, including straight lines, parabolas, hyperbolas, circles, ellipses, and sine graphs.
I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group: I do my share. The key to a successful lab is clear communication with peers. Throughout the lab, I was able to take on the role in charge of heating and watching the precipitate dissolve. I did my share and allowed my partner to do his. Furthermore, we had clear communication on our roles and responsibilities. This allowed us to have a quick and thorough lab that developed our skills in determining the solubility constant.
One assignment that I found particularly enjoyable was the Cabinet project. It was an excellent opportunity to apply my AutoCAD and Fusion skills, which are essential for my future as an engineer. This project taught me how to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing cabinet. The lessons I learned, particularly the importance of communication in design when conveying my design using dimensions, were valuable. Although I faced challenges, such as incorrect dimensioning, I overcame them and grew from the experience, ultimately strengthening my abilities in these programs.
I can build the skills I need to make a project work even if it takes a few tries (THINKING)
I can experiment with different ways of doing things (THINKING)
I can understand and shar information about a topic that is important to me (COMMUNICATION)
Some of the things I plan to do to stay mentally and physically healthy include going to the gym, eating healthy food, and hanging out with my friends. I will plan to go to the gym everyday and focus on eating meals that are organic. On top of that, I will communicate with my friends and have regular hangouts. I want to celebrate my accomplishments such as getting straight A’s so I will plan to use my time wisely and seek help if need. Furthermore, I will work hard inside and outside the classroom.
I can work with others to achieve our goal. I am able to communicate and create a safe place where everyone can express the opinions. I can reflect on my thinking to improve future projects. I am able to reflect on homework and projects in order to get a better mark in the future. I can advocate for myself in times where my voice is silenced. I am able to express my emotions and opinions through various forms in order for me to be heard.
In my opinion, creating and presenting a script in Spanish is quite easy. Being fluent in Romanian made it easy as many verbs, nouns, and accents are pronounced similarly giving me the ability to present without hesitation. Writing in Spanish at times, can be difficult however, with help from my professor and peer tutor I was able to preserver any challenge. Moreover, I was able to use various tools to showcase my Spanish abilities. Textbooks and cuadernos allowed me to practice my skills and improve my understanding. Test gave me a chance to prove my skills that I had been refining in the textbooks and cuadernos. Overall, writing and presenting the script was easy and I was able to showcase my skills through the scripts and tests.
Graph C: Opens up and is wider ๐(๐ฅ)= 1/3 (x+7)^2 -5
Graph D: Opens down and is more narrow ๐(๐ฅ)=-10(x-5)^2
Graph E: Shifted down ๐(๐ฅ)=-(x+1)^2-1
A, H, and K all play significant rolls in where the parabola is and the shape that it has. The A coefficient determines the direction and width of the parabola. If A is positive the parabola opens upwards; if A is negative it opens downwards. A affects the width of the parabola; the larger the value the narrower the parabolas is. Graph C has a width larger than the parent function which means the coefficient of A is between 0-1. The value of H moves the parabolas left or right on the graph. It represents the x-coordinate of the vertex. Thus, meaning if H is positive the parabola is shifted to the right, and if it is negative it is shifted to the left. Graph D represents a positive value of H, because it has shifted to the right of the parent function. The value of K shifts the parabola up or down. It corresponds with the y-coordinate of the vertex. A positive K moves the parabola upward and a negative K moves it downward.
Self Assessment
In this assignment I was able to approach the concept from different angles to deepen my understanding. I used algebraic explanations, in the paragraph explain the significance of A, H, and K. Furthermore, I created multiple parabolas to showcase the geometric transformations of the parabolas. Taking the information that was given in text I created functions that better showcase the purpose of A, H, and K.
2. Throughout this assignment I used mathematical vocabulary such as, vertex, coefficient, shift, function, positive, negative, and coordinate. Using the mathematical vocabulary I was able to create a clear and understandable paragraph that explains the importance of A, H, and K.
3. I was able to format this assignment in an organized way to make it clear and easy to read. Furthermore, I clearly labeled and coloured coded my graphs to make it easier to follow. Also, I used headers and bolding writing to separate unlike text.
I believe that nutrition is key to a strong mindset and body. Throughout this unit, I have learned a great sum of information that will help me succeed as an athlete. I believe that I excel at having a balanced and strong diet. Logging all my meals, I have found that they are balanced between the three macronutrients. Furthermore, I also excel in my hydration, and watching what I drink. However, an area I can improve on is my sleep. During this unit, I had to log my sleep, and I have noticed that I get less sleep than the recommended time for my age. I believe I have sleep debt and it could result in poor function academically and athletically. Throughout this unit, I was able to demonstrate my communication with my teacher and peers. I was able to listen, obtain knowledge, and elaborate. On top of that, I was able to represent my ideas and thoughts clearly and professionally. This unit was a great way to show my communication and understanding of the topic by how I shared the information with the class.
The part of chapter one I feel most comfortable with is factoring. I have found it quite easy to factor polynomials of all sorts. On top of that, I was able to practice my ability in the workbook questions and get a better understanding of what I was doing. However, I would say that a difficult part of this chapter would be a combination of radical equations and solving for extraneous solutions. Even though extraneous solutions are fairly simple I tend to forget to check for them, which in turn could deduct marks on future exams. I am currently working on checking for the extraneous solutions even though they are very tedious. Another thing that is a challenge is radical equations. Numerous questions in the workbook have stumped me and made me require help. Even though radical equations are long, tedious, and require great attention to detail, I believe that I am improving on the topic. I was able to improve by repetition, teach the concept to someone else, and perseverance. I tend to learn the material at hand better when I do it on whiteboards. Doing mathematics on whiteboards helps me converse with my peers and get a better understanding of how and why that step or formula was used. Furthermore, I find that when I teach someone the material it helps me retain the information more. I plan to prepare for the test by devoting the upcoming flex, lunch, and days to studying. I am completing the workbook questions, and on top of that, I am doing the extra practice posted on OneNote. Before taking the test I will be doing warm-up questions to activate my brain and get me in the right mindset. I complete all assigned work on time and in an appropriate manner. No matter what challenge is thrown at me I can preserver and succeed. I understand that in this course I can only rely on myself and that my behaviour/attitude to succeed. I am going to ensure my success in this class by never quitting, seeking help via flex or peer tutor, and completing the extra practice to strengthen my understanding. Quitting is not an option, which means that I must persevere and endure the challenges that are thrown towards me.
