- Core Competency: Creative Thinking
- I can generate new ideas and build on others’ ideas to create new things within the constraints of a form, a problem, or materials.
In the product photography assignment, I developed my creative thinking by learning how to use visual elements to convey a specific mood and aesthetic. I wanted my photograph of the eyeshadow palette to reflect a feminine and elegant mood. To achieve this, I used my planner to brainstorm and sketch out ideas for the composition, including the types of props, lighting, and angles I wanted to use. I chose soft pastel props and warm, diffused lighting to create a gentle and inviting atmosphere. Initially, I encountered challenges with glare from the reflective palette surface and struggled to find a color scheme that didn’t clash with the product. To overcome this, I brainstormed alternative layouts, tested various backdrops, and adjusted the placement of lights and props until I found a solution that worked. This repetitive process helped me develop the ability to think outside the box, refine my ideas through trial and error, and adapt to issues such as the space and materials available. In the final artifact, the balanced combination of lighting, color, and props highlights the palette while capturing the graceful, feminine mood I intended. This process helped me learn how to transform abstract ideas, like mood and style, into a visually appealing and professional photograph through creativity and problem-solving.
