My Artifact: Concept Map

 Curricular Competencies Reflection


During the Indigenous storytelling concept map assignment, I demonstrated the Comprehend and Connect competency by showing how the stories we read were all connected through land, identity, culture, and tradition. I had to really think about what each story was trying to teach and how different characters and symbols were used to share important Indigenous values. I improved my reading and viewing skills by noticing how stories like An Athabasca Story and Son of a Trickster. Creating the map helped me connect ideas across texts and recognize how important storytelling is in First Peoples communities. This assignment also helped me understand reconciliation better, as an ongoing process of learning, listening, and respecting Indigenous perspectives.

 Core Competencies Reflection 

Creating the concept map helped me grow in my critical and reflective thinking skills. I had to make connections between different stories we read and figure out how their themes, characters, and teachings all linked back to the central idea of Indigenous storytelling. I really had to think about how elements like land, Trickster figures, and identity were used differently across texts like An Athabasca Story, Son of a Trickster, and the Trickster tales. It pushed me to not just summarize, but to actually reflect on what each story meant and how they worked together to show diverse Indigenous worldviews. This helped me better understand the deeper messages behind the stories and improved how I organize and explain complex ideas.

Taking a step back and breathing first. If I’m working on math or something technical, I try to reread the question slowly or look up a video explanation. Sometimes, just walking away for a few minutes clears my head and helps me figure it out when I come back.

Keeping a to-do list or planner really helps me not get overwhelmed. I try to write down assignments and plan ahead when I know I have tests or big projects coming up. Even if I don’t finish everything perfectly, knowing what’s due helps me feel more in control and less panicked.

I remind myself that mistakes are part of learning. If I do badly on something, I try to see where I went wrong and what I can do differently next time. I’ve realized that most of the time, no one remembers your small mistakes but you.

Core Competency Reflection

Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include……Before splitting up tasks, I try to think about what each person is good at and what they enjoy doing.Islay is good at drawing so she decided to draw a picture of Remy, and Emi is good at explaining things in frenchso she rote the ”resume”(summary). I also try to make sure the work is divided fairly so no one feels like they’re doing too much or too little. Another thing I consider is time,if someone has a busier schedule, I wouldn’t want to give them a bigger task that takes too long.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by…..If I feel like I have too much on my plate because of my extracurriculars like work or hockey, or I’m struggling with something, I try to speak up and let my group know in a respectful way. I’ll say something like, “Hey, I think I might need help with this part” or “Would it be okay if we switched tasks?” instead of just staying quiet and stressing about it. I also make sure to listen to my group members if they have concerns too because teamwork is about making sure everyone feels comfortable. If I need extra time or clarification, I don’t hesitate to ask.

A goal for myself

One goal I have for myself is to stay organized during group projects by keeping track of tasks and deadlines. I want to make sure I know exactly what needs to be done and help my group stay on schedule.

Earthworm

Cutting open an earthworm shows that I can collaborate because my partner and I worked together to ensure precise incisions. To make incisions my partner made sure the earthworm was steady as I cut through the half of the earthworm. A part of this assignment that I found difficult was making sure we didn’t accidentally remove the aortic arches because they are hard to see to the naked eye. I also gained knowledge of where certain body parts were and practiced taking them out and labeling them.

I demonstrated how I can resite what we learned in psychology using colors and examples of behaviours.I feel I was creative when I made my chance cards and when I drew examples on my board.

Core Competency Reflection

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to discuss together and let one person speak at a time so there is only one voice being focus on.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when my other 2 group members explored more about the Mormon church so we all decided to reasearch more o the history of Mormon church and cases involved with it.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in the voice podcast, I feel like I had good evidence to support my points.

Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map

Core Competency:  What competencies did you demonstrate with the Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map Assignment?

I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but I use that to build my ideas. During this project, I found it complicated to relate the lyrics from ”This is Me Trying” to a disorder but when I analyzed the song I realized it was more about sadness and needing approval.

I can understand and analyze concepts using math tools. Me and my partner made a clinometer and used it to calculate the height, the height was 7.19

I can use critical thinking skills by thinking back to lessons we learned and using the equations we learned, such as tangent ratio.
