Transforming Parabolas

What Makes My Function Different

The values of the variables such as a, h, and k alter the graph in various ways. To be clear, due to the value of a in my graph which is 4, the graph is significantly narrower and because the value is positive, it opens upwards. Likewise, the value of h in my graph is -1. To clarify, since the value of h is already negative in the parent function, then because my value of h is negative then the value becomes a positive and shifts the graph to the right by one. Furthermore, the value of K shifts the graph vertically. To explain, because the value of K in my graph is -6, then my graph is shifted downwards by 6 units.

Core Competency Self Assessment

An example of the representation of the same mathematical idea in different ways is how I used different formats such as graphing, writing, and symbols to represent my function. I demonstrated adequate understanding of parabolas by using mathematical vocabulary throughout my written responses such as when I dissected the different values in my equation above. I formatted the post in a way so that the pictures would be separate from the explanations so that the reader could refer to them they read.
