Bacon and Onion Rice

For this assignment, I made a dish with rice, onion, and bacon. The result was quite delicious, with the familiar and strong scent of bacon mixed with the fluffy texture of rice caused a more than satisfying meal. I did not use a written recipe for this, instead my mom gave me a verbal recipe before I started cooking. Maybe I would add more bacon if I made this dish again, because you can never go wrong with bacon. There was no particular challenges with this dish, but it took me a bit to come up with the idea of what to cook in the first place. My greatest success would perhaps be the idea of adding bacon in the first place (I really like bacon). I’m not sure what I was most proud of, but maybe making sure that there was minimal clean up.

Safety and Sanitation

The lab that I will be using as an example for sanitation and safety is the omelette lab. This lab managed to proceed pretty smoothly, although we were a bit behind in time. Still, we were able to all finish and clean up before school ended. The safety concern for this lab was the stove as it would be extremely easy to burn yourself. The sanitation issue was the fact that a couple members of our group were sick so we had to take great care to prevent the spread of germs. For the safety problem, we cooked our eggs in shifts to avoid having to reach over the stove in awkward angles. For the sanitation problem, we all made sure to wash our hands thoroughly both before we started cooking and before we started eating. These precautions are important because they keep us from getting each other sick, or having to deal with burns from the stove.

Communication

The lab that I am discussing in this blog is the pancake lab. It was one of the more unsuccessful attempts at making food. Particularly when we were pouring and flipping the pancakes. The first batch took longer than they should have because we couldn’t agree when to take them off. They still turned out deformed and under-cooked. The bright side is that at least everything tasted good. Communication is important with your group because if you don’t have it, accidents can happen. They can be small like food burning, or big like someone slipping on oil. Good communication can be asking your group members what tasks are still needed to be done. Even if accidents do happen, you can take initiative, and fix them. This can be done by doing things such as wiping up any spilled oil.

Most Memorable Food Experience

“An Image of a Bunch of Churros.” Spend With Pennies, 20 Dec. 2018, https://www.spendwithpennies.com/churros/.

My most memorable experience with food was after my friend and I attempted to make these wonderful treats. What resulted from this decision was a disaster. Perhaps our first mistake was using a recipe from Tik Tok. The intelligence of this move is debatable, but you got to try everything once. The issue we ran into while baking was inadequate preparation. Halfway into the recipe, we discovered that we didn’t have the right pot to fry the churros. If that wasn’t bad enough, we also ran out of suitable oil. What we ended up using was a mixture of various oils; ranging from vegetable oil to olive oil, and still we were lacking. In the end, the churros did not fry properly so we were left with half-baked and doughy bread-sticks. This tragic story has left it’s mark on me. How I didn’t get food poisoning, I still don’t know.

Reflection:

1. The majority of it was from a booklet that was given in class, and the rest is from well-known encyclopedias.

2. I used Canva, an example that was used for this project. It was easy and efficient to work with.

3. Yes, maybe it is a bit too simple, but it works.

4. Maybe I would add in more events in the timeline and improve the design.

Reflection:

  1. Finding the problem was a bit hard, but I was able to find the solution afterwards with much more ease.
  2. I didn’t really use a backwards design to be honest, but I was able to wonder about the future and find solutions for current problems.
  3. Not really. The physical design is the same as current dynamite because I could not see a reason to change its appearance. The solution was fine, I suppose.
  4. I would perhaps change what my future solution would be. My current idea is admittedly flimsy.

Favorite Website

Reddit is my favorite website because it is an excellent time waster, you can create an account and customize it to your liking by following certain subreddits. There is something for anyone, whether that be football or anime. Neither of which I’m interested in, but somebody sure is, and there’s definitely things for me too. Link:

Important Events On My Birthday

There are numerous things that occurred on the same date of my birthday years and years ago, some of these include Michael Servetus being burned for heresy in Switzerland in 1553, Emperor Napoleon entering Berlin in 1809, and Benjamin O. Davis Jr. becoming the first African-American general in the US Air Force in 1954. Side note, Scotiabank is really interested in my account if the ads on the site say anything.
