Positive Learner Identity

An example of when I have used doing hands-on activities to help me successfully complete an assignment, was when I made breakfast at home for my family. The assignment was for my Food Studies 12 class. It was an assignment where had to make a breakfast meal at home for my whole family, I made them a shakshuka which is something that my family wouldn’t normally eat. this learning strength helped me to be successful because I had to use my knife skills in the kitchen in order to make this for my family.

Making and Sharing Reflection

I was able to identify appropriate tools, technologies and technics that were needed in order for the production to run smoothly. When creating food product, I am able to incorporate feedback from self and others. That way when I plan on making it again, I can do things a little differently than how I did it the first time. When deciding on how and with whom I’m going to share finished product with. I will most likely share it with my family. They are the ones who are the most excited to try my cooking and give me their honest feedback and thoughts on the food.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I introduce myself. i also ask a few questions to get to know the other person better.

While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by asking questions when i need clarification on a step in the recipe. i also help out my peers when they need it.

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to ask for a third opinion on the topic. That way our group does not disrupted the rest of the class.

How do you learn best- I tend to learn best when I’m in a quiet environment and when i have the right materials that i need in order to complete all my assignments and any project that i have to complete.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is– i have spent much of my time learning about the different skills that Culinary Arts has to offer. For example i have learned the different types of skill sets that are required to become a chef.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is– one activity that stimulates my imagination is cooking/baking. i love to cook and bake whenever i can to help my imagination grow. my favourite pt is that i have full creativity when in the kitchen to experiment with different flavours.

This project showcases my development of the Collaboration competency because in was able to complete my portion of this project without any problems. We got to learn a lot about the fashion brand we chose of the project. We learned that the brand put their unsold clothes in landfills instead of a donation centre.

I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

when I reflect on my recent group work for the holidays project, this involved a lot of collaboration. I think overall I contribute my share of the project and I’m a good team player. for the holiday project I chose to work with someone I have worked well with before. we divided up the work evenly and I can trust her to get the work done. while its sometimes frustrating to wait for other peoples time lines it is still worth it to share the work with somebody. overall I am a good team player I can sometimes be bossy and I’m trying to work on my bossiness.

The Writing Process

For my interview essay I chose to interview my grandpa. His decision to move to Canada or stay in his home country Fiji. Something that I learned when I was interviewing him was when he first came here it was hard for him to get settled into a home and getting used to the change of weather was also hard for him. He also told me thatI should always have a back up plan for any decisions that I make in the future. A challenge that i was faced with was that i kept having to go back and ask my grandfather more questions. Something that i will do in the future to prevent this is i will ask him more question at once instead of having to go back and ask him.

Reflection

I knew the information I gathered was reliable because I tried taking it from reliable sources and ran it through the Citation Machine. The medium I chose which was Venngage, was suggested by Mr. Basso. I also attempted to use PowerPoint, but it was too difficult. I think Venngage, was more geared towards my criteria. I was very satisfied with the results of my design. The templates in Venngage made it so easy to create. I will definitely use Venngage again.

Research Paper- Respect Reflection

The thing I most enjoyed about the digital literacy research unit was the writing portion of the overall project. The most difficult part of the overall unit for me would have to be the researching part, finding accurate sources that were citable. I could teach someone the importance of the research in this unit and how valuable the information is. The most important thing that I learned about research is that although there is a lot of information available, not all of it comes from valid places. You must always check the sources to know what is accurate and truthful. Next time when I choose a topic, I will spend more time thinking about how I will elaborate on the topic because I found it very difficult to find information on this topic.

Reflection

was I able to identify a problem with ease, yes I was able to identify a problem with ease. I was able to find the problem and solution by googling and searching through many sites. I didn’t use the backwards design, I just gathered all the information and went from there. Yes, I was very satisfied with the results of my design and the solution because I really like the designing element. How I would refine my assignment, I would do a better job of finding websites with better citing sources.
