Research Assignment Reflection

Communication Core Competency

“I work with others to achieve a goal.”

For this assignment, me and my group had to create a survey asking other students the best possible questions to collect data for our hypothesis. We were all communicating with each other, (suggesting things and asking each other questions), and everyone’s ideas made it into the survey. It was a group effort and together we completed the assignment.

Personal/Social Core Competency

“I demonstrate respectful, inclusive behaviour.”

While working in this group, I was always actively listening to my partners when they were speaking. I respected all of their ideas and contributions. I did my part in the project and was grateful for the work they did as well.

Thinking Core Competency

“I can analyze evidence to make judgements.”

A large part of this project was the reflection was examining the responses we got. We calculated the mean, mode, median, standard deviation, and correlation coefficient of the survey results. I was able to look at this data and determine what we found out, and how it compared to our hypothesis.

Social Studies 10 Reflection

Demography Project

Socials Reflection

I used Personal and Social core competencies when creating this presentation on Italy’s population and developments by researching Italy’s culture, being aware of their country’s differences and similarities to Canada, and using my social responsibility to recommend steps they take in the future to decrease two of their main issues.

Core Competencies: CLE 10

I give, receive, and act on constructive feedback.

When creating my resume, I went over it multiple times with my teacher before the final copy was made and handed in. We discussed formatting, wording, and a bunch of ways to improve it overall. I made many changes to it after getting feedback, which led to the final product. The resume now looks neat, professional, and the information is concise and useful.

Who I Am Presentation

I can plan ways to make my message clear and engaging for my audience and create communications that focus on a variety of purposes and audiences.

When creating this “Who I Am” presentation to share with the class, my main goal was to make it interesting and fun for the audience, my classmates. I used a variety of different ways of showing information, including using images to enhance my ideas. I included lots of text in my PowerPoint but didn’t read it verbatim; I summarized my key points. I read it in a natural and confident voice and answered my peers’ questions at the end.

Podcast Review Poster

I can describe how some specific choices can affect my well-being and participate in activities that support my well-being.

For this assignment, we had to listen to and review a podcast related to the goal we set. Since my goal was to get up earlier/get to school on time, I chose a podcast about sleeping and how to relax at night. This benefitted me because it not only helped the goal I set for an assignment, but it actually helped with my health.

Spanish Dialogue Test Review

My Reflection

Collaborating: I collaborated with my three other group members to create this script. We were constantly bouncing ideas off of each other, listening to each others suggestions, and working as a group to get this done.

Creative Thinking: I had to think of creative ways to integrate the requirements of the assignment into a naturally flowing script. Using the required number of the different things we’ve learned, I had to tie them all together and make sure that the conversation made sense and included everything needed.

Communication: Like I said above, we communicated a lot when writing this assignment. We made sure to have everybody’s voice heard and use a combination of all of our different ideas.

Critical and Reflective Thinking: I was proud when reflecting on our mark for this assignment and made sure to congratulate my partners.

A Spanish Conversation

Thinking Core Competency.

“I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.”

I had to come up with lots of my own ideas for how to use the required elements of the conversation, have proper grammar in Spanish, and to make the conversation flow and sound good. But, a lot of my work was acknowledging and building on the ideas of my partners. The entire thing was a very collaborative effort and we were constantly bouncing ideas off of each other and using each others thoughts.

“I can reflect on my thinking.”

By being forced to do this edublog, I am reflecting on my thinking. Using these core competencies, I can explain my process when doing the conversation assignment.

“I can tell the difference between facts and opinions.”

I am able to tell when there is a difference in opinion, and when something is actually wrong. A lot of the times, me and my partners had different thoughts so we had to compromise. However, some times one of us would make a little mistake in spelling or something and that was something that we had to correct in a polite and respectful manner.

More Competencies.

“I work with others to achieve a goal.”

As said earlier, this project was a very collaborative effort and we made sure to work together throughout all stages of work. We were communicating a lot and we were very happy with the end product.

“I recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them.”

I don’t know how my emotions relate to this project but yes I can acknowledge my emotions and deal with them in a healthy way, in and out of the school workplace.

“I find it easy to be part of a group”

I enjoyed working with my partners in this project. We all got along very well and we worked really well together.

“I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener.”

My partners and I were asking each other lots of questions during the whole process. I was taking into account everybody’s thoughts and the end result is a combination of our collaboration and a group effort.

Goal

“I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself.

That is a goal that I have to work on as an “I CAN” statement. I will achieve that goal by showing a sense of joy after working hard and being more proud of my work.
