Creating a Positive Digital Footprint

Post Positively Online – Having a positive digital footprint is very beneficial because you make others around you feel safe and you’re giving you audience behind a screen a positive feeling knowing that you aren’t doing inappropriate things. So, post positive content such as a book you read, you doing a physical activity, something you’ve built or accomplished, a photo for good vibes or just a photo of you and your family. Use your social media to spread positivity. There’s enough negativity in the world, so take a little time to spread kindness. Your dose of positivity to your social media could brighten someone’s day.
Consider Your Future
Consider Your future – I know that understanding your digital footprint helps you choose and control what you leave online for others to find because every time you are online you create a trail of any information you have viewed or created. So, at the end of the day leaving a positive digital footprint can be very beneficial to your reputation and future opportunities or it may impact the final decision of whether the employer offers you the job or not.
Be Yourself
Be Yourself – When your online don’t be someone you are not, don’t post things that you as a person doesn’t want to post and that doesn’t represent you as a person. If you’re being a whole different person online, then you are in person may reflect badly on you when you meet people or people research you. Overall, just be yourself online don’t be someone you don’t want to be.
Think Before You Post
Think Before you post- You should always think before you post because you’ve got a whole audience behind a screen and what you post could benefit you or it can become backlash for you. You’ve got to always keep these things in mind before you post something on social media, do you want your family member, colleagues or future employers to see this content, or would they approve of this content you are posting. Would what you’re posting be offensive towards someone and if you say yes to that then don’t post it at all because self-regulation is knowing when something you want to post online is or isn’t appropriate. Finally, there are such things as screenshots so if you did post or comment something inappropriate or offensive and decided to delete it, just because you’ve deleted it doesn’t mean it’s gone. Someone could have taken a screenshot and shared it with others and taking something back on social media is not as easy as you think it is. Consider everything you say or do on social media as permanent.
Be Friendly and Social
Be Friendly and Social – Simply being friendly and social on your social media platform can go a long way toward building a positive digital footprint. Complimenting on your friend’s social media, writing constructive comments on another person’s blogs and promoting peoples work and effort on the internet can make someone’s day and may give them a positive impact and overall gives makes your social media a safe and positive place and you’re leaving a positive digital footprint everywhere you go.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include making my social networks a positive, safe, appropriate place to look at or browse because it’s important to me that my presence online is healthy, and I don’t want to be a negative impact on someone or make someone uncomfortable with looking at my social networks. So, I will always go through my social networks to make sure that it is has a positive presence on the internet.
By doing reposts on my stories and letting my followers know about serious issues going on in the world that need to be talked about, commenting positive comments on my peer’s posts or posting fun, positive pictures/vids on my social networks or messaging my friends funny or cute pics/videos I make a positive difference to my peers.
I know my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences such as affecting my future job, losing or making connections with friends, putting a smile on someone’s face or possibly making someone feel uncomfortable or offended. So, I adjust my actions to make sure that I make my digital foot is leaving a positive footprint everywhere I go and that it doesn’t affect my future job because that would be embarrassing and a sad way to lose a job. I also adjust my actions so that I don’t ever want to give anyone a bad impression of myself online before meeting me in person and. I just want to put a smile on someone’s face with my digital footprint.
