Data and Solutions:
Split Money
GIC 35,000
Year 1. 35,000 x 1.035 = 36,225
Year 2. 36,225 x 1.035 = 37,492.2
Year 3. 37,492.2 x 1.035 = 38,805.1
=$38,805.1
Stock 45,000 Good Stock
Year 1. 45,000 x 1.075 = 48,375 + 10,000 = 58,375
Year 2. 58,375 x 1.075 = 62,753 + 10,000 = 72,753.2
Year 3. 72,753.2 x 1.075 = 78,209.6 + 10,000 = 88,209.2
= $88,209.2
GIC + Good Stock
38,805.1 + 88,209.2 = $127,014.3

Year 2. 41,085 x 1.075 = 44,166.4
Year 3. 44,166.2 x 1.075 = 47,478.9
GIC + Bad Stock
38,805.1 + 47,478.9 = $86,283.9
Part 2:

Part 3:
Strength:
-If you lose money in the stock, you still have money in the GIC so you wouldn’t lose all your money.
-It is safer than putting all your money into a stock with high risk.
-If you are new to Stocks, GIC, etc, You are able to experience both at the same time with this method.
Weakness:
-If the stock rises for multiple years, you would miss out if you didn’t put your GIC money into it.
-If it is your first time investing, there’s a high risk of losing all your money.
Collaboration and Contributions
My group and I worked very well together, finding different ways to reach the final amount and helping each other out.
I contributed to the group by deciding how our stocks are, doing the calculations, and helping with the visuals (graph). The whole group contributed evenly and even came up with different solutions to reach the financial goal through stocks. The group contributed to my learning by showing me things I may have not known before. (We all played our part).
We used a good stock for the first year and bad stocks for the following years, as well as the 1 year GIC per 3 years (10k per year). Our total came out to $127,014.3 which is 7,014.3 more than needed for the down-payment.
I would rate my contribution as a 3 because I took part in everything we did and had a great learning experience of how it is to use a GIC and a few things about stocks.
Core Competency Reflection
I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener: I do this by actively listening to teachers and students, and by asking for assistance when needed. I also participate in class and answer questions that the teacher asks.
I can work with others to achieve a goal: I do this by contributing to the work and by being inclusive to others. I can come up with a reasonable plan for a group, and help us follow through with it.
I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group: I do my share by doing the work I was assigned to do and help decide what each person should work on. (Everyone in the group contributed).
I can identify and describe my qualities: I can openly have a conversation with anyone as long as they are respectful. (I am a very social, and open person).
