7.2 Verifying Trigonometric Identities

In this chapter, we will be focusing on proving trigonometric identities (very fun!!!). The eight fundamental identities will be very important in this section (so make sure you memorize the basic identities).

Expression: no equal signs.

Equations: statement that is true for a set of specific values.

Identity: an equation that is true for all real values.

Helpful Rules for Proving Identities

  1. Change all trigonometric values to sin and cos.
  2. Write an expression with a common denominator.
  3. Remember the conjugate step and how to factor.
  4. Work with only one side of an equation at a time, and work on the more complicated side first.
