Communication and Collaboration

In French, we were told to create a cooking video using our vocab from the section we were learning. Lance and I chose to make cinnamon rolls. Lance and I used communication to be able to create the script correcting mistakes and fixing them together. We collaborated when baking the cinnamon rolls we both split the workloads so neither of us were just sitting around, we also collaborated when doing the speaking part of the video making sure we both had equal lines. In the end, Lance and I worked well together and we finished our assignment with no issue.

Collaboration Core Competency – Chemistry 11

For my core competency I’ve chosen my labs, during labs I had to collaborate with different classmates on how to do our lab together and be able to complete it. We would always discuss who would start with what during the lab so we wouldn’t accidentally overlap steps. If there was ever a mistake made we would try and figure it out together to make sure we all got our calculations right in the end.

Art Metal 12 Core Competency

Currently in my art metal 12 course I’m working on my “garden art”. This project has me working on my creative thinking skills because, I had to create a design for my garden art, cut out the pieces and work around any hardships I may have come across. The biggest issue I’ve come across while making this project is figuring out how to bend my metals and make sure it comes out how I want it to look. I think I’ve done a good job on the bending so far. it just took time mapping out the way I should bend it. I also had to work around the fact that we only have one di-acro bender in the class. A lot of the times I had to improvise when bending my project because my other classmates might’ve been using the bender. I’m proud of how my project is coming out and I’m hoping it looks even better when I’m finished with it. So far, I’m really proud of how cute my wall art has become.

Core Competency Goals

The ways I communicate at school differ from how I communicate at – volleyball practice because, I’m afraid to voice my own opinions in fear that I’ll get judged by my peers. It has always been a struggle for me to express what I’m thinking because I overthink situations. I also tend to feel uncomfortable in many social interactions at school. However, when I’m on the court all my thoughts go away, and I feel more myself. This year I’m going to try to speak out more and engage myself in conversations/

I used to think nobody would have the same questions I have and now I know someone in the room could be thinking the same as me because I – have learned that most of us are learning new subjects together so, not everyone will be aware of what the teacher may be saying and by asking the questions I may be helping out others in my class as well. This year I’m going to try and ask the questions I have during lessons because even if it doesn’t help other people in the class at least it will be helpful for me to have my question answered

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include – playing sports, taking walks and listening to music. One of the ways I’m able to get my mind mentally focused is by listening to music, music helps me tune out everything else that may be happening in my life. Playing sports also helps because I get really engaged into my sport since I’m really competitive. This year I plan on working out so when I’m out of sports I have something to keep my mind focused on what I’m doing rather than think about all the stressful components of my life.

Inductive and Deductive Exploration: Is Water Wet?

Questioning and Investigating: Critical and Reflective Thinkning

My conjuncture:

No, due to my opinions water is not wet

Supporting reasons:

Wetness is the ability of a solid having a liquid attach to it. (deductive)

You would have to put an object into water to determine if it’s really wet, you can’t put water inside more water and determine that it’s wet. (deductive)

Counter point:

If you think about it, ice is a product of water and ice is a solid so maybe? You can consider that wet.

Conclusion:

This topic is very controversial due to certain points given from both points of view, while others may believe water isn’t wet as well there are others who beg to differ and they have their own points to prove their view.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Collaboration

During my Chromatography lab I demonstrated collaboration by working with a partner, despite the few disagreements we came across during this lab we both talked each and every argument out coming to a final decision with measurements and calculations. My partner and I both took responsibility of different jobs during this lab whether it was measuring the solvent to the solute travel distance or setting up the papers for our lab. Through our mistakes during this lab we managed to finish the assignment in time. We would help each other out when and if the other was confused over a question so we could assure our lab was done properly,

Innovation Station – The Bessemer Process

Reflection;

Finding the problems for my innovation was easy, I was able to find the problems by slowly going through every site I used and thinking of ways anything could affect my innovation and the solutions were easy to find after I actually knew the problems first handedly. I was able to work from a backwards design by setting my goals for how I wanted my project to end up looking and making sure I was able to understand how it works. I was able to figure out how I wanted my innovation to look in the future since I was given time to think about what I wanted to do my project on and the innovations I chose made it easier because I was able to achieve my goals of working on a project in a way I could also “help” the planet one day. I was really satisfied of the end result of my project because it reached all of the goals I had. I would refine my project in the future by having an actual proper visual drawn by me. I would also like to have a bit more information to put into my presentation. Other than that I feel that the project went really smoothly for me.

My Digital Footprint

Control of identity

When searching my name even within depth not much will come up but, you’ll see my volleyball account that I have to promote my enjoyment of the sport. You’ll also see the teams I’ve been in through an online book that gets made every year for provincials. Thats how my digital footprint shows control of my identity because I try my best to not put anything online that I wouldn’t want people I don’t know to see.

How my current digital footprint can affect my opportunities in the future

First off is my post-secondary applications. My current digital footprint affects my applications in a positive way because I don’t have any unwanted photos of myself online so the university won’t worry about having unwanted photos come up when someone searches the graduating students of a specific year. Secondly, how it affects my job applications. It has come to my attention that job interviewers search up people so they know they won’t have someone that could ruin their reputation be that they have photos of them partying or things such as smoking. I always make sure that photos of me are all appropriate.

Three strategies you could do to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe

  1. You should make sure that all photos of you are photos you would want online because even if it gets deleted it it’s not actually deleted and can be easily retrieved.
  2. Even though it doesn’t officially disappear from the net its still better to delete any inappropriate photos of yourself because those could get leaked by anyone who has access to that photo
  3. All in all just don’t do anything that could damage your digital footprint because these days everything can be recorded or snapped within a matter of seconds and it could potentially haunt you in the near future.

Information I learned and would like to pass onto other student

I learned that even though you think your digital footprint may be good, search yourself up from time to time because you never know what could’ve been posted online without your consent. Going on in the future just make sure that if you ever find yourself in a situation where something online of you is unwanted talk to the publisher of the post and request for it to be taken down and make sure you don’t post anything that could permanently damage your online image.
