R1 – Independent Children

I was 7 years old when I first started doing chores. I started the basics like sweeping the floor, cleaning my room, and washing the dishes. Meanwhile I first started using transit by myself and started heading to school on my own when I was in 6th grade. My middle school was pretty far from my house and my parents were busy at work to drop me off, so I walked to school every morning and afternoon. I think children should grow up with Japanese ideals of independence because it would teach them to be more independent in the future and not having to rely on someone every time you need something done. But, I also think that there is a certain age on what you can and not do like running errands at five years old.
