Meal Planning Assignment

Problem:

The problem is that a family of four has very busy schedules due to work, school, and evening activities. They want to be able to eat dinner together as a family. A problem that has occurred was having troubles deciding when dinner will be made served, and number of servings they will have to make. Additionally, they also have to figure out what meal they want to cook, and who will be the cook of the day will be, since they all have to cook at least once during the week.

Justification:

On Monday, Zahra (PB) will cook Black Bean Tacos. This is a good choice because Cole (PA) gets home at 6:00 and Zahra (PB) doesn’t have any other any evening activities. Zahra will start cooking at 6:15 so she can take a break after her work and eat dinner at 6:30.

On Tuesday, Stacie (T1) will cook Homemade Chicken Pot Pie. This is a wise decision because every other member of the family is busy. Neither Zahra (PB) or Cole (PA) will have enough time to make a home cooked meal for everyone else to eat and Rhian (T2) is not able to cook a home cooked meal like chicken pot pie since the difficulty level of the meal is too difficult for her to cook. Therefore, Stacie (T1) is the wise decision to prepare and cook a challenging meal for the family. The dish will take 60 minutes to prepare and cook. Therefore, Stacie (T1) will start cooking the meal at 5:30 and the food will be finished at 6:30.

On Wednesday, Rhian (T2) will cook Grilled Cheese. This is an excellent choice because of the difficulty level and time she has. The difficulty level of Grilled Cheese is easy, and Rhian (T2) does not have any extra activities after school and dinner. Rhian (T2) will start cooking at 5:45 p.m. when Cole (PA) gets home so she has 20 minutes to cook 4 servings of Grilled Cheese and has an extra 5 minutes to set the table for dinner. They start dinner at 6:10 so, they have 35 minutes to eat since Cole (PA) will be coming home from work at 6:00 p.m. Rhian (T2) has an evening activity at 7:00, so Rhian (T2) will have enough time (15 minutes) to get to her evening activity.

On Thursday, Cole (PA) will cook Tuna Casserole. This is a desirable choice because Cole (PA) gets home earlier on Thursday than any other day. Cole (PA) also doesn’t have an evening activity on Thursday unlike Zahra (PA), so this will be a wise choice.

On Friday, Zahra (PB) and Rhian (T2) will cook Feta Pasta and Garlic Bread. This is a good choice because Rhian (T1) cannot cook challenging meals unless with an adult. Zahra and Rhian will start cooking at 6:30 since the Feta Pasta will take 45 minutes to make and Garlic Bread will take 17 minutes for 4 servings. Dinner will be served at 7:30 where Zahra (PB) and Rhian (T2) will done making the meals.

Collaboration Reflection:

The ways my group communicated and shared information to each other was by talking and asking questions within another. We also shared information by typing down what we know into our shared word document.

The ways my group used technology was to search references and write down ideas for our Meal Planning Assignment. It was helpful to my group because it gets the job done faster and easier, since we can all work on the same word document in the same time. It also makes it easier because you can edit it in a more sufficient way and can type information faster.

Task were distributed in my group by giving each other one family member to be. For example Cole was Parent A, Zahra was Parent B, Stacie was Teen 1, and I was Teen 2. We each looked at their schedules and what activities they had and made a schedule for what meal they cook, how many servings, and what time they can eat dinner. After completing the table and have all the information needed for the solution. We split the Justification Part and wrote in our own words why we chose the day and why it is a good choice for that person to cook the meal.

The task I completed are writing the Justification for Wednesday/Friday, filling in the table for Wednesday/Friday, and finding a new recipe to cook that we can use for our solution.

Self Assessment: Collaboration and Critical Thinking

Some things I think about before dividing task among group members include how much work each person will have, if they’re ok with doing that task, and making sure that every group member has an even amount of work.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try my best to communicate with them and ask questions so we are all in the same page and understand what are parts we’re doing.

I show others that I truly value their contributions by having good body language and by having eye contact with the person talking. I also show that I am interested by asking questions.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is I have included all the parts that was needed by reading over the criteria sheet and analyzing what needs to be in the edublog/assignment.

I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as looking over the solution and reading over the Meal Planning Data to write proper justification statements and reflections.
