Chemistry 11 Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical & Reflective Thinking

My artifact is the acid-base titration lab we did in class and the write-up.

During this lab I used my critical thinking skills while attempting to determine what amount of base was needed to exactly neutralize the acid. In the first trial, which was a rough trial, I figured out the general amount needed, somewhere between 14mL-15mL. From there I continued narrowing it down over the next three trials until I determined that that the amount need was 14.15mL. After conducting the experiment I was able to take the data I had found through doing the experiment and determined the concentration of the acid. After I had finished analyzing the data I presented my results through a conclusion where I restated the purpose, the key point of the method, and then made reflections through the sources of error part of the conclusion. When writing about the sources of errors in the experiment I was able to reflect on what could have been done differently during the experiment to improve the accuracy and precision of my results.
